Royalty. I took my 13-yr old son and his friend to Michael Smith for a special birthday meal. It was delicious! Our favorite was the rabbit gnocchi! However, the star of the night was our server, Stephen. He was so professional… didn’t baby the boys or show annoyance that they weren’t adults ordering wine and made just the right suggestions… the boys couldn’t get over his panache! He also took the extra step to tell MS about my son and the man himself came out to say hi, shake the boys hands, and personally shave our truffles! What exceptional treatment!
Tonight was my first (and soon to be many) experience at Michael Smith. From start to finish it was wonderful. We used a Groupon and it happened to be 1/2 price bottle of wine night. I loved the wine list, it was full of options in every price point. Our server Stephen was very accommodating; friendly but still very professional. The food was wonderful. Carpaccio, pork roast and the leg of duck. The dining room was full, but yet our service was prompt and well-paced. This will definitely be a new spot for birthdays and special occasions.
Sorry folks….hated it. Consider myself a foodie, but I guess my palate is not sophisticated enough for a James beard award winner. Braised rabbit was boney, gnocchi was weak, pork loin was spammy, waiter was too cool to be a waiter and the ambience was off, too much effort all around (including the patrons) not enough substance.
Lovely Dinner. I gave Michael Smith a try during restaurant week. In my experience, Groupons and restaurant week are a great way to see the true nature of a restaurant. Restaurants that care about customer experience and reputation will treat you equally; restaurants that see these as a gimmick, will do the least possible to get through the meal. Michael Smith served a high quality meal, and used restaurant week to cultivate new customers. Well done.Try the 8 hour pork, and don’t skip dessert!
ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC. This place rocks! The rabbit is one of the best dishes I’ve ever eaten. Our table had 4 entrees, 4 first courses, 2 bottles of wine and 4 desserts and everything was cooked to perfection and tasted phenomenal. If you live in Kansas, you have to try this restaurant.
Took my parents to Michael Smith last night. We had the 6 Course Chef Sampler, meaning that we were delivered three different options to share for six courses. The 18 dishes were fantastic. A few items I didn’t care for but all were prepared beautifully and several were some of the best items I have had. Pork with pea risotto is a must taste. Will definitely eat there in the future.
Great portions at lunch. We enjoyed lunch there and were able to have a variety of courses because everything was a smaller portion. It was wonderful and not too pricey.
