Great service & sushi!! I love sharing this place with friends. Live music on ladies night and on 1st Friday’s. My favorites are the chicken pad thai, the mango tango roll & the spicy salmon roll. The Sangria is always a great choice from the bar. The new KC Streetcar also has a stop at 16th & Main which is a plus. Fun restaurant with beautiful art work always on display.
I enjoyed the sushi here, haven’t tried many of the other dishes here, but the sushi and service was good. The parking here is terrible if you try to go during peak hours.
Went there after having fun at thebar. I must say for a Japanese redtaurant they have an impressive late open hour. Their shrimp shumai, though not what shumais necessarily should look like, were very tasty and well cooked. The crispy rice wrap fits the sauce and the shrimp was fresh and flavorful. There yasai yaki (veggie boil) was a little pale, in comparison. Only thing good about it was the smoky tasteof the tofu. The sushis were delicious and fairly good, especially for late happy hr
Went at lunch time and had the bento box as well as the miso soup. It was not overly busy was seated and served quickly. I choose the spicy tuna sushi and the beef robota and added the miso soup. Over all it was a great light lunch the box was 9 dollars with a decent value but the miso soup was 5 and I Wish you could get a cup instead of just a bowl for a little less . I will probably be back for happy hour the prices look good…
I’ve been to Nara a few times for lunch/dinner and it’s a good sushi option. I usually go for the box during lunch and the rolls are what you’d expect and the fish is pretty good. If you’re downtown and looking for a good happy hour / lunch spot you should give Nara a try. My main plight, though, is that even when the place isn’t that busy the service is still fairly slow.
Great food, but drop the New York attitude – this is cow town!. My wife and I dined here on a Wednesday night and arrived about 6PM. We were asked by the hostess in a snotty way if we had a reservation. Really, a reservation required on a Wednesday night in downtown KC? When the restaurant is less than 1/2 full? We were told it would be a 25 min. wait. We waited by the bar & ordered drinks. The bartender was not friendly and being lady’s night, did not offer to tell us about any drink specials so we paid full price for drinks. After about 20 min. the hostess apologized for the wait and offered to seat us in the lounge. Once seated, it took almost 15 minutes for the waitress to come to us even though she had been in the area several times. Once we received menus we saw the drink specials for the night. I definitely tipped the bartender too much! The food took a long time, but I will say it was delicious. Nice atmosphere, great food, but let’s dispense with the haughty attitude – you’re in the Midwest, not on the coast.
Just TRY to beat Nara’s Happy Hour – you can’t. Nara has excellent sushi, let’s start there. The atmosphere is really nice. Location is cool, nice view of downtown KC. Restroom downstairs is even nice! Service is excellent. Now, how are you gonna beat Nara’s happy hour? You’re nuts if you think you can. There are several sushi offerings I like, and I LOVE the spicy tuna roll. Absolutely delicious, and THAT many pieces for like $3 if I remember correctly? What a deal! And so many good happy hour menu choices, the shumai, gyoza, sushi, they’ve even recently added a pretzel! And wine pours were generous and great values, good selections. Servers are great (I really like Morgan but there are several excellent servers). I hear there are good lunch deals as well but we generally go for happy hour. And by the way, Nara is one of few KC restaurants that offer happy hour on Saturday. Which is why you’re not gonna beat it!
