This was an amazing place, just the bread course alone was worth the experience. Home made bread and delicious butter. We split the ravioli for appetizer, they burst with flavor yet were so light. The halibut was cooked to perfection with a light and flavorful sauce. A meal that didn’t make you feel full at any point, but you left feeling transformed by the experience.

Do not eat here. Do not drink here. The way that the management treats guests is unacceptable.
Highly Recommended Dining Experience. Novel is definitely New American as its website claims. It’s located near the downtown area off west of the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts. I took my boyfriend for an early Valentine’s Day dinner because I was leaving town on Valentine’s Day. I made reservations online. The process and user interface of its reservation system was simple and easy to use. It was more eye-catching than OpenTable. The restaurant called me a few hours later to confirm my reservation. It looks like a repurposed house, but everything about it has a quaint charm. I would love to see the yard when there isn’t any snow on the ground. It sits on the south side of 17th street and you have to walk up stairs to get to the front door. We sat upstairs. The atmosphere was romantic. They used reclaimed wood for the walls and their tables came from Boulevard Brewery, which gave it a local charm. The bread they brought out came from Fevere next door. If you haven’t bought bread from Fevere, you’re missing out. It’s such good bread. What made our experience great was our server. She had good knowledge about the drinks and food. She made a few recommendations for appetizers and we enjoyed our choices. My boyfriend had the broccoli salad and I had the fried egg. For our entree, he had scallop and I had the pork chops. The pork chop was a healthy portion. I almost finished it. It leans on the spicy side, but the pork belly ragu that sits on top was heavenly. The menu has a well-rounded selection and the drinks were excellent. I definitely recommend this place.
Best New Restaurant. Absolutely the best new restaurant in KC, get there before everyone else discovers it and you can’t get a table. Food and Service are fantastic.
Best Restaurant in KC!. I will start off with the descriptive words: innovative, unique, scrumptious or as my husband described it – flavor orgasm. We have been wanting to try Novel for awhile now. We decided to celebrate our anniversary trying to buzzed-about place. I am not a KC native, so anytime I can experience a place unique to KC I am excited. You walk up these narrow outdoor stairs to what looks like a house. There is a small patio outside and once you walk in your greeted by friendly staff. We sat at the bar because we were a tad early for our reservation to have a drink. My husband works for a liquor distributor, so he immediately takes notice of their selection and offers. The bartender, Victor was awesome! My husband called him a scientist as he took careful measurements of his crafty cocktails. I enjoyed a few glasses of Reisling and my husband had a cocktail which his loved. He was most impressed with these soaked cherries that were in it. Our table was upstairs in a candlelit, intimate area. Our waitress was awesome! She knew all about each course and made her suggestions. The olive bread from the bakery around the corner was outstanding along with homemade butter. I don’t even like olives. We tried the crispy egg and the pig head raviolis. It was all food I probably would never eat, much less eat together. The crispy egg is cooked 2 or 3 different ways with the yolk still runny in the middle. Pair that with tripe, (yes tripe) and you have mmmmmm. The pighead raviolis were atop a honey mustard aoile and peaches. Ryan has really perfected brining flavors together to make your mouth excited for what is next. The strawberry and tomato salad was fantastic as well. My husband had the scallops with bone marrow and I had the pork chop with pork belly ragu on top. Best pork chop, almost like a steak I have ever had. We tried the okra (again, my first time) with a hollandaise sauce and of course, guess what? Fantastic. Couldn’t end the night without dessert. . if you haven’t had the panna cotta, you will never go back to cheesecake. All in all, I could go on forever. Ryan has done well and it’s a nice additional to KC. Friendly staff. If you want a meal that is well thought out, combines flavors you’ve never had with local ingredients and a twist on American food, come here! The place is a little pricey, and there are several stairs to climb. But I am a firm believer in you get what you pay for. Well done, Novel.
