First impression…WOW! This place is incredible. An eloquent speakeasy type place, void of pretentiousness, and the best staff I’ve encountered anywhere. I like the smaller portion size, as this allows you to share or sample more items in the menu. This is ideal, because there are too many spectacular options to choice from. Excellent drink menu, well crafted drinks, and Scotch flights! We had Japanese Cuttlefish, Octopus, and the Wagyu Steak. I bought my sister a membership, since she lives here, and I visit frequently from KC. Delightful experience and I can’t wait to go back!
Incredible. Did not know this was a members only restaurant when I arrived but they accommodated me at the bar. The attention to detail was fantastic. I told the bartender what sort of tastes I liked and he whipped up three different amazing drinks. I ordered three appetizers for variety and got out under $35 for food. I commonly remember this place as the best resaurant experience I’ve ever had.
Not worth it. Don’t believe the hype.. I heard so many good things about this place that when I saw they were accepting limited memberships I quickly got one. I quickly invited some friends and made a reservation. First we had some cocktails and the truffled tater tots before dinner. The cocktails were just okay. Frankly, Taste in the CWE is miles ahead of these. The tater tots were okay, but nothing special in our opinion. For dinner we wanted a bottle of wine so I asked for the wine list. I was asked if I wanted the red or white wine list. I thought this was pretty dumb not to have them both together since depending on what everyone in your party is getting you would want to look at both for sure. Anyway they were out of the first wine we wanted so we went with an Italian white, which was good and not too overpriced. However that is more than I can say for the food. I had the Amish chicken, which I was expected to be amazing given what I have been hearing about the whole concept of Amish chicken recently. It was moist, but it was served with like 3 wilted pieces of arugula, some uncooked peas, and some crawfish that seemed like an afterthought as they were basically hidden under the chicken and didn’t go with it at all. This dish was like 26 dollars. My husband got the steak, the most expensive thing on the menu at 36 dollars. He said it was good but nothing spectacular and certainly not worth 36 dollars as nothing really came with it. My other friend got the tortellini, which she seriously got like 4-5 pieces for like 22 dollars and again it was nothing special. We did get dessert – a scoop of the peanut butter gelato. Well we have a gelato maker at home – a real one that has an internal cooling mechanism. Every gelato we have made was more flavorful than this gelato. So basically, it is extremely overpriced food that is just okay, on top of which you have to pay monthly membership dues for the honor of eating said overpriced food. Well I immediately canceled my membership. We all felt ripped off and really I think that most of the reason people like it is because they fall for the ‘well it’s exclusive so it must be good’ vibe, and then when they have it they tell themselves that it is good because logically to them it has to be. Well this place is 100% NOT WORTH IT.
Sublime service AND food. We took our dd for her 17th birthday and had the most amazing evening at B&S where we were fortunate to get to know Adam Frager better as he attended us throughout the evening. Each dish – from the truffled tater tots and coffee and cumin dusted chicharrones, to the splended Iberico collar, pan-fried red snapper with pillowy gnocchi, the unusual grilled octopus, and delicate pierogi – was splendid. Beautiful on the plate and on the palate. Our evening ended with three fun and beautiful desserts – fruit leather displayed like flying flags (my favorite was the orange hibiscus), maple sugar candy cotton, and the most decadent and perfectly done flourless chocolate cake served with mint chocolate chunk gelato. This was only our second trip to B&S, but is down as one of our most memorable food experiences so far.
Food= very good, would definitely go again. Name (blood & sand)= Just gross. For the love, change it!!!! Also, the music was terrible, they were playing oldies. Please don’t do that. To end on a positive, the interior layout and decor is swanky (so they may want to rethink those rubber coasters on the tables, they just don’t fit at all).
As a member of this private establishment, my opinion is a little biased. As for the name of the place, it is named after a traditional Scottish drink. Since this place focused on making amazing concoctions, I think is name is quite appropriate. I’ve never had a bad meal and even if you are not a member, check this place out. You will not be dissapointed!!!
