OMG- I purchased a caramel pecan stollen and it was the best stollen I had ever had. Large pecans, lots of caramel, the texture was so buttery and moist and the most delicious filling ever. Yes I am addicted.

Excellent Stollen and Cakes!. A friend introduced me to strawberry stollen over a decade ago, and the best strawberry stollen was to be found at the former Laux Oakbrook Bakery (now Jilly’s Cupcake Bar). The search was on again for good strawberry stollen, and now my go-to place is Helfer’s Pastries.Helfer’s version is the classic stollen: chewy, sweet, with crunchy nuts, but split; it is filled with a layer of rich, cream cheese-like filling. Topped with fresh, juicy, large strawberries, and covered with a shiny glaze, this stollen is a welcome surprise anytime to my co-workers.They also excel at cakes too. You must try their whipped cream cake, topped with strawberries. The white cake is moist and subtle, like pound cake, but not too sweet. The sweetness comes from the strawberry topping, as well as the strawberry filling in between the layers. The whole thing is shrouded in loads of whipped cream, which is so much better in taste than butter cream or conventional sugar frosting. The cake is frozen, and needs to be defrosted a few hours in the refrigerator, but it is worth it–the whip cream remains creamy and stiff like cream cheese, while the strawberry filling is still slightly frozen. This cake brings back fond memories of my childhood, when I couldn’t wait for the whipped cream cake to defrost!I’ve also had lunch at their deli. It is not a full-fledged delicatessen, but it has all the basics–they do serve up a pretty tasty reuben. So, have a tasty lunch, and then follow it up with a very tasty dessert to take back to work. Your co-workers will love you for it.

Good Sandwich. Went to lunch here today and had a tasty Reuben. Deli sandwiches looked good and the pastries looked delicious.
