How a Great Restaurant Handled a Bad Situation. Let me start by saying that this has always been one of my favorite restaurants in all of KC. Food is interesting and good! That’s why it was chosen for a group of ladies (6 of us) to celebrate a birthday. For the first time ever–there were problems. By some weird coincidence, the same 3 meals (all different) were ordered by both sides of the table. So 2 people had cheese sandwiches and soup, 2 had quesadillas, and two had another meal. When the meal came out, only 3 meals were served. Apparently the cook decided that the two tickets were duplicates and only prepared one of each. So 3 of us sat and picked at our meals, trying to wait, until the other 3 meals could be prepared. It took approximately a half hour for that to happen. And the cheese on the matching cheese sandwich meal looked paltry compared to the other person’s sandwich. The cook that day just really had to be either new, having a horrible day or just plain needs to be replaced. NOW–the question is how does a restaurant deal with a problem like this? Our waitress was so apologetic (it wasn’t her fault–but we were definitely very upset). The manager came out and also apologized, the bill for every person was reduced due to cold food and/or the long wait and the person who hated her meal did not have to pay at all. Also they provided a couple of wonderful desserts to share. We’ve all eaten there many times–and loved it in the past–but we were so soured by the long wait for food that we were all in agreement that we’d never, ever go back. HOWEVER–the visit from the manager (who said this is not how we normally are–which we knew, from past experience) to the way they tried to make up for the confusion and poor service (again, cook not waitress–who was wonderful)–completely turned our attitude around and everyone felt like they did what a great restaurant does, which is make things right with their customers. We all went from upset to agreeing to it was just a bad day at Ophelia’s and we will definitely return because we know that it was just a fluke plus they care!!!
This place was fantastic. We found this place in the heart of Independence Missouri, who would have guessed. Well worth the drive. I have traveled the world over this is one of the finest meals we’ve ever had. The food was fantastic, the wine was superb, and most of all the entertainment made this evening magical. The pianist Patrick Gilbert was phenomenal! He played our requests and kept us serenaded thru the entire meal. Our waitress was simply delightful and made excellent suggestions. Two thumbs up!!!
Had dinner the other night at Ophelia’s and it was amazing. We had the rainbow trout special and the filet. Everything was fixed perfect and the service was spot on. The manager Justin was very nice, he came around to ask how our dinner was and even the chef came out to make sure the food was prepared the way we liked. We will be back.
Wonderful fabulous delicious!!!! You have to come try it!!!
Fantastic. Comfortable atmosphere in a restaurant with well spaced tables, great wine and even better food. Highly recommend the Chateaubriand Spedini. I will definitely return.
Is this place really in Independence?. You would never expect a restaurant like this in Indep. The food is spectacular. I’ve never had a bad dish here. Been coming here for about 6 years now. I wish they didn’t change their dinner menu (where’s my sirloin the way I used to like it?) and wish that they would add some of their lunch items on their dinner menu (like the Twisted Quesadillas used to be, and a few burgers). They do have some really creative and yummy dishes and great brunch on the weekend too!I like Roy the manager and two of the efficient servers, but I agree — there are two women managers who are AWFUL and don’t really care about the customers. Some of the other wait staff are slow and can’t get their act together. It’s a good thing the food is SO GOOD here. Otherwise I would not be back.
Best of Independence!. After reading the prior review of the management I was somewhat hesitant to eat here. However, after my dining experience I have to say that whoever wrote that review must have been having a seriously bad day to write such things. Not only was the manager kind and attentive, she was also working just as hard as the rest of the staff– making sure food was coming out promptly, greeting guests as they arrived and left, and frequently checking on tables to make sure everything was okay. The food was great and the service was even better!
