Very pleased. Great service, very welcoming, and patiently explained different items to us. I had never had German food before but I will definitely return here the next time I’m in town.

My knockwurst deprivation may be over.. One thing that Ive groused about is the lack of knockwurst in this area in spite of its large German population. Oh there are brats a plenty, but thats it. no knockwurst or other wursts. The Heidelberg in Columbia’s Knackwurst, was disappointing. The only place with knockwurst that is within easy reach is down at the lake (Osage Beach) where it’s made from a German family recipe but only available on German night (Thursdays). It’s magnificent but thats further away than Columbia and more prone to bad weather particularly during the winter months. So the good news came tonight when I visited Das Stein Haus for their wonderful duck a la orange. While there I asked if they ever had knockwurst and was assured that they had changed suppliers and were now carrying all sorts of German and Hungarian sausages. I asked if they carried kelbosz (Hungarian version of kielbasa) but didnt get an answer, and the answer to my question about cevapcici was no. So German and Hungarian sausages but not Slavic ones. The sausages are not yet on the menu but I was told that they are on the bars menu. Also note that they are no longer doing lunch. i am not certain of their current serving hours. Boar’s Head knockwurst are now sold at the Eastland Gerbes (Kroger) and they’re o.k. but i prefer the home-made ones.
