We went as a large birthday party group. Got there about five min early, they seated us brought us drinks and took our orders fine. We were told the chief’s were behind so we waited awhile till they came to cook. Rushed us thru eating and cleaning us up. Food more expensive and you get less to eat. As they were rushing us out because another group was waiting. Said it was because we were so late getting there. Can you beat all…
There isn’t anything special. just a typical hibachi. there is a much better place in joplin for sushi and actual Japanese food. they do however serve you enormous amounts of food at the hibachi if you just want to stuff your face.
Sorry for the spelling, I’m on my mobile!13 Nov, 2013I’ve been a solod customer to this establishment for many years, I am bar manager in town and have been for the last 4, bartender for almost 8. I will never return to Tokyo Japanese Steak & Sushi! I was a customer there on Sunday and had some drinks, I decided to leave my car there because I didn’t want to risk a DUI, they have no signs in their parking lot about towing, I wasn’t able to get back till Tuesday morning, $95 later I am no longer a customer of this establishment, I hope you take into consideration how mich your business means to them before returning, absolutely do not give them your business, there are far better quality, and better moral businesses downtown…
Just plain. Went to Tokyo Japanese for dinner tonight with my daughter Very boring and plain. Waitress was ok and barely talked to anyone at our table. The chef didn’t entertain anyone and seemed less than thrilled we were there. Won’t be back ever again. Could have gone to Chic fli A for half the money and would have a much better time!!
Very Unhappy Customer!!!!!. My family and I have been going to this place for the past 5yrs quite frequently and this past couple of months the service has gotten worse and the inconsistency of the food has gotten worse also…Sometimes we get a chef who cooks good and can entertain which when you go to a place like this, that is what you expect…but then there are a couple of chefs who, and I don’t mean to sound rude but, they need to retire or do something else that doesn’t require going behind a grill and cooking for the public…Today I had the worst experience ever, I just so happened to get one of the chefs who no longer need to be standing behind a grill…Our food was burnt and by the time he got around to our plates to serve us, we basically got the burnt shards off the grill that was underneath the food that he served to the rest of the table, and a waitress I am familiar with walked by and I pulled her aside and whispered to her what was going on and she went and got our waitress who then came and stood behind the grill facing the whole table and then proceeded to ask me if everything was ok…ummmmmm….first of all knowing there was a problem she should have came over to me away from the rest of the customers to discuss the issue, she then tells me that they will take care of the drinks for us…!!!!?????!!!!!! Really? There were 4 of us and 2 had water…I said that I would be happy to pay for the sushi and drinks because that part of the meal was great, she then went to the manager and he came over and said that he could take care of what we didn’t eat, and then he said that it was our problem because the rest of the table ate their food and we did not….I told him that maybe because they don’t come here that often and do not know what to expect and I expect more from this place, like good service and great food, which is what has kept us customers for 5+yrs, we then go to the front desk to discuss with the manager, which again in front of other customers, not good for business, and he said he would take care of 20% of the meal, I told him I will pay for the sushi and drinks but will not pay for the rest of the food that none of the 4 of us ate because it was all burnt, that included noodles, veggies, rice and meat… he then told me that I could either pay the bill or not come back….So I told him, I chose to not pay and I will let everyone know how I was treated, after coming for the past 5yrs frequent spending on an average of at least 50-100 each time, this is what they do to show their appreciation…Sad deal. I checked out the reviews on google and it seems we aren’t the only ones they have done this way, our case was a little more extreme but similar to others.
Going down hill and price is going up. Still the sushi and and sashimi are pretty good. Come here for lunch and eat out front. The bonito box lunches are a good deal and half the price of the dinner version with just as much food. Lunch only to 3:00. The chicken katsu has gotten a little nasty. Was better than the Ichiban version but today was greasy and like the Chinese chicken on a buffet. Also the lunch boxes come with tempura vegetables rather than the greasy grilled stuff off the dinner menu. Enough grease that I can feel the stomach ache coming on as I type this! Get the quality back up and I’ll continue to have lunch here weekly!
Always great service. The sushi & sashimi is always fantastic!
