Slab of ribs was very good. Turkey was smoked very well. Fries were good. Consistently busy the whole time we were here, which is a good sign.

Very good BBQ across the board. However, this BBQ institution is no longer the best in KC by a longshot. OK Joes (long ago) and now Q39 (new benchmark) have passed this juggernaut. I loved the experience of ordering cafeteria style with the old school line cooks shouting out the orders as a hostess curtly told me where to sit. The place smelled of years of great BBQ memories. You should go for the experience alone-especially if you go to 18th and Vine for the day as I did, but temper your BBQ expectations if you’ve been to the best new BBQ places KC has to offer.

It’s not the best bbq in Kansas City, but it’s one you have to try since it is a good one. I really enjoyed the pulled pork sandwich. Eat the fries fast and get a large drink.

It is a cozy little place and i got the nice little’booth’ hidden aside. Got some beef this rime with coleslaw and it was perfectly cooked. I loved their baked beans. They were rich, hot and absolutely delicious. The vinegar-based sauce might be a little bit strange for someone, but as I am very fond of vinegar, I found their sauces very unoque and delightful. My personal favorite was the ‘Rich & Spicy’, whereas the sweet and spicy turned out to be slightly overdominating for me. The service was good and quick, and the employees have a good attitude.

A staple of KC BBQ. This location is the original and be quote busy. Staff is very helpful and polite. There is even a security guard that help you find parking and directs traffic. The beef is amazing, most people dry the beef out too much when they cook it. This place it is moist and you don’t even need one of their amazing sauces. Famous for a reason.

No, it’s not the best in the world. It’s not even the best in Kansas City (that would be Joe’s). But, you should go at least once in your life. If you are traveling to KC for only one day, you should go to Joe’s. If you will be in town for two days, go to Joe’s one day and AB’s the next. Yes, Joe’s is better, but they, like the rest, are imitators of this place. AB’s is an institution and helped put KC barbecue on the map. It is hallowed ground, even though it’s in the hood.Don’t order the lean brisket. Get the burnt ends and ribs (or rib tips). Get the fries, as well, because they cook them in lard–and they are delicious. You should appreciate the quality for the price you pay (which isn’t very expensive).

I loved the place and the people. But the food wasn’t what I thought it would be. Ribs were dry and mostly bone and tendon. But a nice place to visit.
