Best burnt ends around! Also the fries are the best! Thick and flakey on the inside and crunchy on the outside. And while some of the food doesn’t look all that appealing, the taste certainly keeps up. I will admit, I did not like the ribs, which they insist you must try. They looked unappetizing and were pretty tough. Their sauce is also pretty sweet. Not my fav, but the burnt ends and fries definitely made up for it. It is a bit smoky and small dining room, but you get to watch your meat being taken out of the smoker and cut. The ambiance along made it for me, with good down home feel, with friendly staff and a lot of love in that food. Also a fun beer selection with some local favorites.
I went for lunch and had the mixed plate with ribs, brisket and burnt ends. I hadn’t been there and don’t get over there often so I wanted to try all the key items. The ribs and sauce are very similar to Gates, but I actually prefer Gates. The brisket was fine save the fatty spots. The burnt ends, which I always hear about, were once of the most divisive thing’s I’ve ever eaten. Any piece that had bark was tender, juicy and amazing. Every other piece that didn’t have bark was like eating rubber. It was one of the best BBQ items I’ve ever had and one of the worst on the same plate. I guess the moral of the story is, be careful what you ask for because it’s likely going to be very inconsistent. The beans and slaw were good.As far as the location, we parked around back on the side and walked past a giant pile of trash with flies everywhere. Then when we got inside the parts of the floor that didn’t have carpet mats felt like it was mopped with oil. It’s a miracle no one has fallen and been hurt in there. I’m perfectly capable of staying on my two feet and I had to hold the rail like and elderly person to make it up the ramp to leave. It is honestly dangerous. All in all, I would go back if I’m in the area to give it another shot. But I can get to Gates, Joe’s and Jack Stack much easier and I would put LC’s behind each of these places in overall experience and/or food.
Anyone can make a case for their personal favorite spot, but in terms of KC bbq there is no question that LC’s is the Most Slept On. I know there are many life-long KC residents who have never been there and that’s a damn shame.
LC’s is great! It is a real hole in the wall, but that’s what a BBQ place should be. The meat is excellent and I would highly recommend the brisket and burnt ends. Their fries and beans are also good, though the red beans and rice were nothing special. Their sauce is good, but be careful when using the bottle…let’s just say it’s a thin sauce and comes out quickly!
Great Food!!! Service is not great. It is actually really bad. But the food makes up for it. Just know that if you go there, you need to expect the process to get the food to be tedious, but worth it. By far the the best BBQ in KC.
One of my favorite bbq spots in kc .the burnt ends are so good they make you wanna smack yo mama .And some of the best fries your gonna get !!
Great food. I bought dinner for 5 – full slab of ribs (excellent) pork sandwich (great too) slice meats (wonderful brisket and turket) and 1/2 of a chicken with side dishes of potato salad and beans. Everything was very very good, well worth the money (I found it kind of expensive) except the 1/2 chicken. It was smoked nicely, but not completely done., As has been mentioned elsewhere, the baked beans and brisket are wonderful.I had a coupon for $25 off and the bill was still $55, but we did get a tremendous amount of food. As far as the service is concerned, there was absolutely nothing wrong with it. The people that had trouble must have been there on an off day.
