This place has pretty outstanding donuts. I went at 11pm right when they open and I wasn’t even the first one in line! Donuts are delicious! I had a caramel donut that was unreal. Didn’t realize they have fresh glazed. Definitely will go back.

Holy amazing donuts, Batman!!!. I have to agree, but at the same time tell Kay she is wrong. Yes, you can get a cake donut anywhere, but if you can get the best cake donut you will ever eat why would you skip it? The apple fritters – amazing. The cake – amazing. Long Johns – amazing. The quadruple chocolate round things my wife sent me back in to order – we did it after she ate one. I recommend the quadruple chocolate round things on the top right of the counter. Not inside the counter, top right.I also had a buddy in town from Austin and we popped in early one morning after a good night out and Austin, TX now has a John Donut fan. Too bad for him he lives in Austin.
YUMMMM….. These are some of the best doughnuts you will ever have the pleasure of eating! I consider myself a dough-NUT, and these pass my taste test. Skip the cake doughnuts– you can get those anywhere. Focus your attention on the original glazed or the custard filled…yum! If you want a hot fresh doughnut (and believe me, you do!) you have to go after 11pm…but its worth it! John rocks and so does superman
Stereotypes are true. I went to the Cards game last week and decided to make it a full evening. After visiting a few drinking establishments along Broadway we ended the night across the street at DBS bar. While waiting outside for our cab to show up we noticed 4, that’s right – 4, police cruisers parked neatly outside of John Donut. I have 2 kids at home that love donuts, so I figured I would get them a most nutritious breakfast. Inside we discovered 6 officers politely eating their snacks. Behind the counter (it’s 2:30 in the morning) were two gentlemen that were the happiest sober people I have ever run into that late/early. While ordering I let it be known this was my virgin voyage into John Donut. I was assured by the folks behind the counter and all 6 of St. Louis’ finest that this wouldn’t be my last trip.I ordered 4 cake with chocolate icing; 2 cake with chocolate icing and colorful sprinkles; 2 apple/cinnamon fritters; 2 giant glazed and 2 pretzel looking things.The cake donuts are light, but not cake airy light. They have a slight crunch when you bight into them and explode flavor in your mouth. (I’m not kidding, these things should be on the controlled substance list.) The apple/cinnamon fritter had a nice sweet flavor, but wasn’t too much of either apple or cinnamon. The flavor blend and texture, again, perfect. I don’t know about the others because by the time I rolled out of bed there were 2 donuts left in the box. Judging by the reaction of my wife and kids they had the same taste explosions I had.John Donut – check them out and meet a few cops while you’re there.
