I have had a mental list of all the places in and around KC that everyone says has the best burger. JAD is always on the list and has quite a following, and with good reason. They make a fine burger and love those fries. Sadly, I can not say it is the best in KC. I give it a 4 out of 5. Afraid the best in the KC area that I’ve had would be Jim’s Fat Burger. But if you are around the JAD bar it’s worth a trip inside to still get a great burger and fries.

Great beer selection. The best burger and fries in Northtown. (Probably north of the River) Plus, the staff is all way above average. WAY.
#1 burger/Blanc #2. My fiance and I have a soft spot for authentic home style food. The kind your grandma makes. I grew up listening to my friends begging their mothers for meatloaf nodding my head in empathy with a mouth full of grandmas fresh food. My fiance, who is from the birth of the mix plate, Hawaii, spent several years in China feasting on a buffet of goodness. Needless to say we don’t just go out to eat, we hunt for our food, prey if you must.Been going here for years. Laid back environment, GREAT bar food, never empty/never crowded, sports/news always playing, DIVERSE crowd. Good selection of beer. Great service. Black and blue, Northlander, BBQ cheeseburgers – all are absolutely phenomenal. I’ve seen other menu items and all look decent. Pineapple upside down shot for dessert.Need more import beers.
Okay this place is a dive and a little bit of culture shock, but good grief the grill food is great and the service is friendly and laid back. Just a place to slow down, eat some good bar comfort food and have a drink.
No surprises here…. I like Helen’s quite a bit. They have a good selection of liquor (at one time they even carried St.-Germain.) Their food is, I think, better than standard bar food. The menu is definately not lacking in variety, from fried appetizers, a goats cheese salad, pizzas, burgers and sandwich selections. The homemade french fries are worth a stop! More than that, everytime I stop there, I always comment that the employees are genuinely nice. The young man that cooked my food actually made a trip over to ask me how I liked it and Becky our Saturday night bartender is always friendly and just a nice person. Saying that seems silly because those seem like very simple things, but not always what one gets. Sometimes the simple things done well are much better than trendy things done half-way.
