Curry Awesome. Went in this past week for a cup of soup at Le Monde. Cute little bakery with a pastry case filled with tempting sweets. I went for a lunch meeting and was told the Chicken Curry Soup was fabulous. I ordered the soup which came with either a side of white rice or a french roll. The soup was wonderful. Filled with hearty chicken chunks, a wonderful curry flavor, creamy rich broth and just a little heat that made the dish a perfect fall lunch. Le Monde is a bakery with a few tables crowded into the shop to allow for about 16-20 max to sit and enjoy a lunch. If you want to sit, go early. My friend had a seafood Gumbo which looked good as well. Staff was nice, place was clean, and the food is worth the stop. This fall you should take a lunch break and grab the Chicken Curry soup, it will warm the soul!
The curry chicken soup, Vietnamese spring rolls, and pastries are all 5 stars. I went to Le Monde for lunch, and I was struck by two things. First, their lunch menu is fairly limited, which isn’t a bad thing, you just need to know what they have to offer before you arrive to make sure you can get what you want. Second, everything is great! (Ok, I didn’t try everything, but what I did try was fantastic.)I started with the famous spicy chicken curry soup. This has a spicy creamy base with large chunks of potatoes, chicken, and carrots. I would go back just for this. It is served with a fresh-made french roll or rice. This is easily enough for most people for lunch for right at $5.Also on the menu today (Wednesday – Friday) were the spring rolls. You get three nice sized shrimp spring rolls, with peanut sauce, for about $5. These were as fresh and tasty as I’ve ever had.To round out my trip, I had to try an actual pastry, so I went for the strawberry and cream cheese croissant. It was easily as good as any I have ever had.In summary, if you’re looking for a quick lunch, this is definitely a great choice!
Chicken curry soup and spring rolls. I try to avoid making eye contact with those flaky, delicious croissants when I visit Le Monde. But, it’s hard. This bakery is great for a quick lunch. Try the chicken curry soup or the spring rolls (only served Wed-Fri). A nice little patio outside if you aren’t taking it to go….
Wasn’t impressed with the service…seemed like they were preoccupied with phone orders. Food was mediocre at best—quiche and croissant with tuna or chicken (can’t remember) wasn’t memorable.
Simply the best French bakery in all of kansas city. Must try to believe.
Best bakery around. This is the best bakery around for french pastries and the absolute best bread and rolls you can find.
Layers and layers of tender flakiness. Croissant perfection. There used to be a French bakery where Longbranch is on Metcalf years ago that had wonderful French pastries (it may have even been called the French Bakery-but anyway) and Le Monde reminds me of this place. The croissants come in every flavor and are huge and puffy and brown with layer after layer of tender flakes. They offer other pastry delights additionally as well as lunch which draws rave reviews. The people are nice and warm and it was well worth the trip I made from So KC to enjoy.
