I have found HS bakery to have some very tasty baked goods such as cakes, cookies and doughnuts. The people that work there are usually pretty friendly. The problem i have is the price of their products. Everything is way more expensive than any other bakery i have ever been to. I recently stopped in at the end of the day to pick up some cookies for a work meeting the next day and all they had was individually wrapped cookies and they wanted to charge me $85 for them at the end of the day none the less. I have been to other bakeries at the end of the day that practically give them away. I really wanted to like HS bakery but think that i will probably take my business elsewhere.
Bad Customer Service and too much pride. Ever since we discovered Heavenly Scent a few years ago, my family would drive the extra miles to go to Heavenly Scent for our doughnuts. The place is cute, if a little tacky (a major angel theme), and the wedding cakes are beautiful to look at. But lately they’ve raised their prices and now their doughnuts are almost 3x as much as other bakeries in the area, and yet their doughnuts aren’t any better than other competitors. When my sister needed a cake for her favorite teacher, who was retiring, I naturally suggested she go to Heavenly Scent. My sister asked for a 1/2 sheet cake in the shape of a book, since the teacher likes to read. She was told it would be $40 for the cake, and $50 for the specialty decorating. Knowing that a realistic ‘book-cake’ can be time consuming to create, she believed this to be a fair price. Now, my sister bakes and decorates cakes and cupcakes as a hobby, so she knows what it takes to decorate and the price of the materials that will be needed. She is so good at it that she is told by chefs and patisserie chefs that she should go to school for it (but she has her heart set on being a vet). She didn’t make this cake for her teacher, because (being a senior in high school) she was right in the middle of final exams.When my sister picked up this cake, she immediately thought it wasn’t up to the standards of their other cakes. But since they were already late for the party, she took the cake and left. The cake turned out to be quite dry. Our major complaint was that the decorating looked like something Dierbergs could have done for 1/2 the price. It didn’t look like a book at all; it looked like a sheet cake with a small cut out in the middle where the spine would have been. The words were done in a printing script that my sister could have done incredibly better. The only thing that was good about the cake was the flowers. When we later went back to Heavenly Scent to complain, they told us that the managers wouldn’t be in until the evening (we went to the bakery around noon). We left our #, told them our complaints, and were informed that the managers would call us around 6pm.At 9pm that night, the ‘manager’ called us back and left a message. She gave us tons of attitude and told us she thought the cake was ‘beautiful.’ This cake is not ‘beautiful,’ it is mediocre and definitely not worth almost $100. I then called the manager back myself and this woman argued with me for over 30 min telling me that the cake was beautiful, and her decorator was amazing. I have no doubt that her decorator does amazing work, I’ve seen it during the times I’ve been in the store, but this cake wasn’t even close to his other works. She refused to give us a percentage of the money back and instead said she could give us 25% off our next order: which is just a coupon and a crappy one at that. And we definitely won’t try again if it was this bad this time.The incredibly arrogance of this woman, and her awful attitude made the experience that much worse. We will definitely NOT be coming back to this bakery and we suggest that anyone who tries this bakery bring in a picture of the cake they want, that way they can’t argue with you..Let me first make it clear that this bakery has not responded to our complaints since I last spoke to them and has not tried to resolve the issue. Heaven Scent Bakery, unfortunately, you are penny smart and dollar dumb. We simply wanted a portion of our money back for work that we felt was not quality work.. While you would have lost $20, you would have kept us as customers. My sister and I had planned to give you our patronage for our future weddings and future events. Unfortunately for you, you may have saved yourself $20, but you’ve lost thousands in future business.
Horrible! the good reviews must be friends or relatives of the owner! Ill give them five stars for appearance but in taste, well they have none so i guess a zero! save your money and find a true bakery because the baked goods here arent worth a dime! dont say i didnt warn you!!!
QT has better donuts for 1/2 the price
Our favorite donut place, love the banana cream filled and the caramel long johns. We’ve also bought several white cakes for special occasions, very good.
Overpriced and nothing special. You can get better donuts at a gas station. Don’t waste your time or money.
Way to expensive not that good. I wanted a round Batman Cake for my son’s 4th birthday. It had a lot of detail. I thought it would be around $60.00 to $70.00. I sent a pic to Heaven Scent and asked for a quote. They are close to my house and I do like their doughnuts so I went to them first. The price I got was $175.00. They said it was because it was a tall wedding cake pan or something and there was a lot of little fondant items on it. I thought it sounded high but thought maybe that’s what it would take. I tried another bakery that I really like… It is called, Wedding Wonderland. Their cake taste so much better than Heaven Scent. I sent them the pic and their price came back at $72.00. Heaven Scent was over $100.00 more. I don’t understand. I thought maybe they just did not want to do it so they priced it out really high but that just made me mad. They are a bakery that I have visited several times. I will not be going back.
