Everybody seems to think this place has the best burger in St Louis. I wouldn’t know about that, being a first-time visitor to the city. But I will say that the burger I had here is at least as good as any burger I’ve had anywhere.Buffalo fries were pretty amazing.Very nice place, the decoration was awesome and the attention was good!!
Okay, there are must-try local institutions and there are must-try local institutions. Most of them seem to be surviving on reputation, but if my one visit (two, if you count a glass of ice tea the previous day) is anything to judge from (and, of course, it is), this place is the genuine article. The restaurant is a successfully overblown tribute to anything having to do with music: the Elvis Room, the wall of photos of the owner with this and that celebrity, the thick scattering of memorabilia … it’s all there, like a Hard Rock Cafe, but sincere rather than materialistic.Everybody seems to think this place has the best burger in St Louis. I wouldn’t know about that, being a first-time visitor to the city. But I will say that the burger I had here is at least as good as any burger I’ve had anywhere. It was (a) huge and (2) mostly meat. It was cooked perfectly to specification, which is an accomplishment rare enough to warrant actual surprise. It was flame-grilled rather than flat-grilled, and yes, it turns out that really does make a difference. It was juicy and loaded with all the condiments that make a burger look and taste just right. Everything about it was well above average.I think I had fries with it; I don’t actually remember. It’s been 24 hours now, and I had more beers (from their extensive list of choices) than is customary or good for me, because, for the first time in years, I wasn’t driving. I don’t regret it.Oh, and the prices were better than expected, including the beer and booze. I don’t think they were on special but maybe they were.THE CURMUDGEON’S RATINGS:FOOD: 4 chili peppers (out of 5)SERVICE: 2 1/2 chili peppersAMBIENCE: 4 chili peppersVALUE: 3 1/2 chili peppers
Been here a couple of times. This time just to eat. Good, stick-to-your ribs fare with a fun atmosphere. Only complaint/improvement would be removal of some of the negative comments and graffiti in the women’s bathroom. Some of it was rather inappropriate.
