Eat at home before the show….. This is try #2 and I strongly recommend that you stick with the basic’, the real basic, i. e., a hamburger. Their cheese soup was huge, pasty and way too thick. My wife’s Cobb salad was a bowl of lettuce with a few additives. My Puchutto ham was cut so thick and was so dry that it was impossible to cut! Service was attentive but sloppy. Desserts were good. $100 for two, not again.25 Dec, 2013Very tasty!. Enjoyed a pre-Pageant dinner last night and was not disappointed. Elise took great care of us and her suggestions were right on the mark. The pretzel crusted trout was delicate and moist. My roasted chicken w/garlic mashed defined comfort food. Bread pudding and Vanilla Sammy, a homemade ice cream sandwich sent us on our way wondering why we hadn’t ‘discovered’ Eclipse sooner. NOTE: parking for a Pageant show and having a pre and post show cocktail is a real secure way to navigate this part of town.
Great Food & Great Drinks. Dont know why this place gets such a bad rap on here. Yea the service might be a little slow, but why not order one of their killer specialty cocktails, enjoy a conversation with friends, put down the phone and relax in the 1960s-ish atmosphere of this place. For drinks I suggest the Month Old Manhattan. The aged cherry in brandy that accompanies the drink makes it well worth it.For food I suggest anything with brisket. Had the brisket sandwich that was topped with onions and provolone cheese on a ciabatta bread. The meat was super juicy and the right amount of spice for a great sandwich. The brisket flatbread appetizer was killer as well. Everything I felt was reasonably priced based on how much food you get. Plus, the extensive cocktail, beer, wine and spirits menu is worth any wait.
Stu was an impressive and knowledgable bartender/mixologist. He helped us pick out several cocktails, chatted with us about their house-made bitters, and crafted our drinks perfectly. Service was top notch.04 Jul, 2013It’s gotten much better since 1st time we dined! First, the pluses, the 1st floor bar in Eclipse in consistently excellent (knowledgable staff, quick service, great craft cocktails, beer selection, wine & bubbly). The breakfast is amazing and super cheap for what you get! FRESH fruit, whipped butter, large selection of breads, pastries, scones (most house-made, not generic), you can customize anything just ask, breakfast prices 8-11 (includes coffee, tea, oj, or latte!), staff was super professional, and don’t forget the individual jams delicious. Okay, so where do they fail? We’ve had dinner a few times and for whatever reason this operation falls apart at night, the dinner menu is weak. Very expensive, but bland and uninteresting. We ordered the BBQ tofu and it was 3 measly triangles of tofu and some shredded veggies for $13, I had some seasonal duck and it was so undercooked it was like chewing on a tire. My advice: please spend at least 1 night at this hotel, spend your late night at their bar sipping one their excellent staff pick cocktails, absolutely visit the restaurant between 6am-11am for one of the BEST breakfasts of any boutique hotel, but hit up one of the other Loop establishments for dinner. I’m hopeful that Moonrise/Eclipse will see the weakness of their evening operation, and pull it together!
