A small venue with handsome contemporary design. There is a wall of wood artwork that resembles loads of bare brickwork, exposed duct work systems and light bulbs surrounded by layers of material of hexagonal and rectangular shapes. There’s a contemporary feel to the food as well, with classic Korean dishes often given a modern twist or two, such as the sides of potato croquettes and creamy cheese corns. But no need to fret about the absent traditional food. Dishes such as kimchi, kalbi and beef/chicken bulgogi all feature, so do a few choices of soups like dwen jang. Seoul ssam wrap, a variation of the traditional Bossam, with caramelized pork seasoned with the sesame sauce, is an instantiation of the more imaginative side of the menu. The cooking-on-the-spot experience was always entertaining. The sizzling grill gave our clothes a heavy cooking odor despite the exhaust system. Both the marinated and fresh meat (such as rib eye steak and pork belly) were well-sourced and high quality but over-priced. A 7-8 oz rib eye costs $32. We had two orders of it, one boneless beef and a few more pork belly with a bulgogi dish. Totally $150 for three.
