Amazing service and great food! The atmosphere is comfortable and lively. The food is the star of the show!! I would make this a must eat stop while in Springfield.
Wow! Best restaurant in town, hands down. I’ve been here numerous times for lunch and dinner, business meetings and casual family dinners, and even rented out a banquet room a few times. Everyone I’ve been in contact with has always been friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. They just celebrated their 20th anniversary, so that should tell you something! This place really knows what it’s doing. Definitely a place to check out.
No Way!!!. My wife and I have been eating here for a few years and in our opinion it’s missing that special something that kept us coming back for so long. Last night we decided to give it another chance, after all it used to be in our top 10 favorite places to eat in Springfield. We ordered our drinks, Johnnie Walker Blue and a mixed house special. The mix special my wife said was okay, not great or even good, just ok. I rarely complain when out on a date, especially a nice restaurant like this, I mean when you’ve worked all week this is when you’re supposed to let it all go and have a good time. That being said I’m 100% positive that what our server brought me was not Johnnie Blue…I’m fortunate enough to be part of a whiskey/cigar club and Blue happens to be one of my favorites, and I partake of it often. Point being I’m very familiar with its taste profile. I politely brought this up to the bartender and he assured me he poured it himself from the bottle. Not wanting to argue I asked him if he had something else with a similar taste profile. He was very quiet and said he could offer me the menu but had no suggestions. Not wanting to ruin the evening I took what was poured for me and returned to the table. Shortly after this the Hat/owner was scowling around the corner and talking with the bartender. Then gave the body gesture of whatever, rolled his eyes and disappeared. Not what I expected from an owner with a dissatisfied patron. On to the food, we ordered 2 half apps, Shaw-some two-some and D. Scott. We thoroughly enjoyed the D. Scott and it was a sizeable portion for a half app. The pickled quail egg didn’t really offer anything to the dish and seemed like an after thought, but overall it was good. The other app was very bland considering all the star ingredients it had. The puff pastry was raw in the middle…personal pet peeve. Would not recommend this app unless you’re dining with your grandparents or someone who can’t handle flavors. My wife ordered the Rick and Sharmista and I went for Jennifer. My wife enjoyed her meal but was not overwhelmed like we used to be dining here in the past. The most savory item on the plate was the shrimp which is not good when you have a huge chunk of Ahi Tuna that’s been glazed in sriracha. Perhaps they need to revisit the drawing board to come up with a better flavor profile. The Jennifer was perfect, this is a dish that I’ve enjoyed here for years and they do an excellent job. The brussel sprouts could have benefitted from some garlic/bacon and more time on the grill. They were too al dente for my liking, but I did eat them all…so. Overall when we come here we expect the best because they claim to be the best by the atmosphere, ingredients, offerings, prices, service etc. Bottom line they used to deliver on that claim and that time has past. The food is good and you’ll enjoy the environment and service, but somewhere along the way they’ve slipped, perhaps complacency has overcome the owner/chef and just being good enough has become okay. This eatery used to be GREAT and you could taste the passion in everything, now it’s just become another place to eat, nothing to get excited about. Final piece offering for Great food AVOID there are far better choices, for a good meal I would suggest trying another establishment and if they’re all booked up Metropolitan Grill isn’t a bad last resort…As far as the whiskey goes SHAME on them!
Wow!!. I went there for my Valentines dinner with my boyfriend, and we loved it! The food was amazing, and the customer service was superb! We will be back!
The cake lady. All I can say is anyone who has written a poor review of this establishment clearly is looking for a target for their own unpleasantness. Not only was it our first visit to Metro, we were also wearing jeans and took my 12 yr old son who is quite a know-it-all. Not only did they treat us very well, but they put up with my son with great charm (asking for bbq sauce for his steak. The kitchen actually made him some bbq sauce!!!) Not to mention our food was incredible. The blackened tuna and the sharp pasta were to die for, and the amazing bread was super addictive. Chef Pat was very hospitable and friendly and we enjoyed talking to him. Did I mention we didn’t even have reservations? Every poor review on here is not validated in my opinion. I would highly recommend this establishment.
The Metropolitan Grill. This place has what you are looking for, great food, great menu, GREAT people! Thanks for an evening where my partner and I could feel safe and secure, to be ourselves and to enjoy the simple things in life without people staring or snickering.
Elvis would have eaten there !!
