Too expensive, even for BBQ.. Great tasting food. Maybe a little pricey. A 12 oz. can of soda is over a dollar. I should have looked at the price of soda, but when was the last time you went to a restaurant and was served soda in a can? And there is no way I’m paying $3.50 for a 14 oz. mug of beer. Wait… their beer is on tap but their soda comes in a can? Their food was good, but by the end, my overall satisfaction was a bit low. I love a good dive, but they could improve a bit. Oh yeah, I don’t care if it’s pretty, but I shouldn’t feel like the building will fall down with me in it. Be carefull sitting in the bar stools and I wouldn’t suggest leaning on the counter.
Love it!. Loved,loved,loved it! Cold beer and really Good food . We ordered a rack of ribs looked more like two racks,red beans and rice were the best Ive ever had and the potato salad is like mom makes. I love hole in the wall places for a reason they are always good. We will definately be going back. and I will definately be leaving with a BIG piece of the carot cake to go Yummy!
A Springfield Landmark. Pappy’s Place has been around longer than I have, it’s not pretty, it’s not in the best of shape. If you want to experience the historical value it can’t be beat. The BBQ is good, the ambiance is better. Grab a cold beer, sit back and just relax. Don’t expect anything fancy, just hang out for awhile and soak it in…it’ll grow on you.
Burgers are ok. My chicken special was just nasty dry slop on a plate. Stick to the burgers and BBQ.30 Jul, 2011Place needs a cleaning crew. Burgers were ok special was terrible. Way over cooked chicken.
Substantially good in spite of outward appearance!. I have eaten at Pappy’s since I moved here the first time in 1968. Inspite of the outward appearance it is a clean place with good food, and wonderful service. I love the ribs, cole slaw and deserts. The sauce is OUTSTANDING compared to the other bar-b-cues in town, except for it’s equal. Crosstown Bar-b-cue.
I’ll admit that I didn’t eat there, but, we were planning on eating there until we got there. It’s in a little shack in front of someones house. It looks more like a garage than anything. It not in the best part of town…
Not that great. This place doesn’t deserve to be rated as high as it is on this list. The meat comes to the table already sauced, pulled pork gets a vinegar sauce and the shredded beef comes with a kansas city style red BBQ sauce. I would like to taste the meat for what it is. However the ham was great and the ribs were good.
