In the past months I have significantly changed my diet and eat clean about 90% of the time. Every now and then I have unbearable cravings that I eventually succumb to. On this particular day I couldn’t decided if I wanted a couple of McChickens from McDonald’s (real cuisine, I know) or Chinese food. I decided on Chinese but didn’t want to drive across town to my usual place (Pacific Kitchen), so I drove over to Pine Garden despite never having eaten there before and went through the drive through. I ordered the sweet and sour daily special for $3.99, and with white meat + tax I ended up paying over $5. No big deal, until I was handed my order. A tiny plastic container, seriously the SMALLEST portion I have ever gotten from a Chinese restaurant. The quality of the food was even worse. The chicken was so greasy that I could hardly taste the sweet and sour sauce, the carrots within the sauce were extremely mushy and tasted like they had come from a can of mixed vegetables, and the rice had a weird texture and fishy flavor. I was extremely disappointed and bummed out that I had wasted my money. The building looks very nice, even boasting an award on the side, and the woman working drive through window was very friendly and upbeat. Unfortunately, the food sucked and I would have been better off hitting up the dollar menu.
Award winning?. Had their award winning Springfield-style cashew chicken and it was excellent. The $5.99 combo dinner includes cashew chicken, fried rice, one egg roll, one crab rangoon, and a drink. Quite a deal. The eggroll wasn’t the best but everything was served hot and quickly. Overall, not bad at all.
General Chicken. I am a big fan of the general chicken from China Wok, but a friend of mine said they’d found a better place. They were right. The chicken is more like a strip instead of a ball and crispier too. The sauce is spicier, with lots of fresh garlic. In the combo you get one egg roll and one crab ragoon, which I like better. They have a drive through too!
