  I only went in to drink. It was about 8ish on a Saturday night. I quickly found a seat at the bar and was greeted promptly with a glass of ice water (which is key to whiskey drinking!) I had a desire for a cocktail featuring blackberries, so I asked. After negotiating an alternative version of the cocktail of the day, I was served with a fine libation. The service is top-notch and whiskey section is a solid A. Will be visiting again to sample the food, but this is a drinking establishment first and foremost.

  Hopeful for a comeback. As luck would have it, our first visit to Julep was on its opening night. Somehow we managed to get a table and were immediately smitten. It was cozy yet hip, the drinks were spectacular and our server was charming and attentive. We went back again August 7 and had a very similar experience. The atmosphere seemed to harken back to a 50s or 60s lounge with a little bit of the 20s thrown in. Between the two visits our group sampled almost every cocktail on the menu and we did not find one we didn’t like. The third time we went – August 30 – we were extremely disappointed with the service. The drinks were still just as good, but we had a server who could not have been less interested in serving us our drinks much less refilling our water or checking on us. We got up once to go to the bar and ask for water and once to ask the bartender directly if we could order some drinks. We had such good experiences before this that we figured it was just a bad night so we went back again October 28. In all fairness, this was the night of the 6th game of the World Series and we got there just as the game was ending. The atmosphere was awful, I am assuming because of the crowd drawn in by the game, not swank and hip like it had been. The music was loud and nightclubbish and again the service was awful. The bartender approached us when we first came in and said if we needed anything to let him know. When we were ready to order I went to the bar and gave the bartender our order. This seemed to upset the server that hadn’t paid any attention to us up to that point because she was surly for the rest of our very short visit. We really love the idea of this establishment and if, on our next visit, it is back to its original atmosphere and service we will definitely be back. If it isn’t, I will be disappointed to no longer be a customer.
