Average food with little ties to the culture they are supposed to represent. I find myself disagreeing with the majority of the reviews to date. Upon arriving at the restaurant, I began with their Calamari (Kalamari) appetizer. The squid itself, was prepared with a nondescript batter and cooked well beyond the expected al dente level of doneness. The restaurant appears to have chosen to serve this appetizer without a standard condiment (e.g., aioli, tartar or marinara). Instead the flavor is augmented only by a handful of Calamata olives, feta cubes, sliced tomato and lemon wedges. Next I ordered a standard Greek salad which, unfortunately, arrived swimming in dressing. Mind you, this can sometimes be forgiven, if the dressing hasn’t been allowed to separate, leaving me with mostly salad covered in oil. Lastly, I chose to try the Greek Chicken entree. Unfortunately, this portion of my meal bore the least resemblance to Greek cuisine. The chicken, rather than being prepared to an attractive golden-hued crispiness, bore a rather unattractive limp grey-brown pallor. The flavor, while not unpleasant, didn’t come close to the lemony/herby palate one normally expects. Instead, picture more, mom’s Sunday evening baked chicken in a brownish gravy with rice. For dessert, I asked the server for her recommendation. She immediately responded that the house baklava was the best choice. A mediocre choice at best, as it arrived chilled rather than at room temperature. Lastly, the waitstaff (one lone server), seemed overwhelmed by the almost half-full restaurant. She managed to keep my water refilled, but took nearly 15 minutes to collect payment after delivering the check.
The service was quick. The menu was primarily gyros which I love but I was wanting to try other Greek food too. I will have to come back and try other food hwre
New servers!. There is a new group of servers. The service today was excellent and the food was fantastic, as always. Definitely an enjoyable experience today.
Really Good Food. We love Greek food and try to find Greek restaurants when we are in a new city. We tried the Athenian this week and it was great. Our service was good, too. DH had the gyro platter, I had the veggie platter. We highly recommend this restaurant.
Decent taste of Greece at a decent price.Has the chicken gyro and sampler.
Best food in the world!. It has become a tradition to eat at the Athenian for my family and friends. The food is amazing! I could eat there once a week if i could afford it all the time! Will be back soon.
Holy cow, this is the best Greek food I’ve ever had outside Greece, and frankly it’s even better than a lot of the food I’ve had IN Greece. Loved everything about it.
