Amazing! Dinner was the best I have had in a long time. Dessert was a dream. Try it. BUT have reservations or you probably won’t get seated. Really worth calling for reservations.

Just found my new favorite restaurant in Billings! This is the kind of place we have been needing here. I went for dinner with a buddy of mine. This is really not a place to bring the kids. We sat up at the bar, which was cool with me because I could see some of the action in the kitchen. That, and despite calling around 11:00 this morning, they were already booked until 9:00 pm for a table, so be sure to get your reservation a day ahead I would think. We ordered the poutine as an app, and it could have easily have been a meal by itself, and man it was so good. The fries alone were excellent, crispy and all that a good fry should be. The gravy and cheese curds were very tasty and the egg on top was just over the top, but not too much…lol! I had the lamb shank as my main. It is just one of my favorite things to eat anywhere, and this was as fine an example as I’ve had anywhere. It was served with these stellar onion rings, that should be on the apps list by themselves (hint-hint Chef Travis,) as well as what the menu calls a tomato-lamb jus, but it was more like a thick ragu kind of thing to me, and was just ok alone, but worked really well when taking a bite of it with the meat and the vegetable mash. I don’t know what veg is used. Seems like mostly potato to me, but that’s not a bad thing. The lighting is a bit low, so making out fine details was impossible for me, but overall this was an excellent meal. My buddy had the pork shoulder, and while he said one bit of it was a little too fatty, he still went after it like a starving dog, so it must not have been too bad…lol! This is an excellent new restaurant, with a really nice modern, yet cozy atmosphere. It’s in the space that used to contain Z Pizza, so it’s really small, and while it’s not a place to take the kids, it would be a great first date, or anniversary place. I look forward to my next visit so I can try some of the other things on the menu I didn’t get to try tonight. I’m not a huge burger guy, but I think I’m going to put it in the Chef’s hands and be adventurous and go for the Staff burger next time. Sounds really intriguing. I was leaning heavily toward it tonight, but couldn’t pass up the chance of a lamb shank. Oh, and btw, the prices are on the high side, not unreasonably so for the quality of a chef prepared meal mind you, but it’s not a place to go for cheap eats if that’s what you want. The lamb was $28, and the poutine was $10, but again, excellently prepared, by a real chef, not some line cook at Denny’s or something, so well worth the splurge. The chef is also teaching some cooking classes on an apparently monthly basis, and I believe I’m going to have to get in on some of that action soon too. I gave them a 4.5 rating because no place is absolutely perfect, but Local and the crew there got pretty close. Good job, and thanks guys.
