Good food but pricey compared to similar places. Very slow service! I probably won’t go back.
Normally I would give this place 5 stars but last night the service was horrible which detracted from the bad food. This place seems to be slipping
Thank you Josh, Courtney & Will. You saved the night! We were out for my sisters birthday and had an unpleasant experience at a nearby restaurant. We walked in to your busy Saturday night – starving & with a five-year-old in tow, hopeful that maybe you could accommodate us. Boy, did you! Every aspect of our evening from there forward was perfect. You all went above and beyond to turn our night around. With it’s creative menu, high-energy environment, excellent food, and top-notch service, Open Range is quickly becoming known as one of Bozeman’s best restaurants. I would like to add another often overlooked factor that will contribute to it’s success. HEART. Hiring people who care and go out of the way to help others. Thanks, Open Range! And, thanks again Josh, Courtney, and Will.
Bozeman’s newest best kept secret!. First of all let me tell you that I have been a chef in part of my life so I am very picky about my restaurant fare. I enjoyed the impression the restaurant made as I walked through to our table. Nicely done, clean lines, touch of color here and there, and no campy cattle theme. Hostess was friendly and very informational about the restaurant itself. The wine list and drinks list was generous! And the menu was minimalist with offerings but great descriptions… made my mouth water just reading it. What a wonderful offering of local foods and inspired dishes!!!!! I was looking forward to the smoked potatoes. So, I ordered the buffalo hanger, my son (his birthday) ordered the butcher’s cut of the day, and my daughter (in law) orders the squash noodles. Our waitress was so very friendly, attentive, knowledgeable about the food and the cooking process. She answered every question I had satisfactorily. She was sweet and brought the chef out to talk to us. I told him the truth…. this was the BEST Buffalo I have ever had… including my own kitchen! Everything was presented as if it was on Iron Chef America and the layering of flavors was beyond description. My water glass was never empty and we were never wanting for anything but never felt ‘hovered over’.Desserts were divine…. they sent out a birthday shortcake for my son… WITH a candle. Restaurants just don’t do that anymore! My chocolate sorbet was smoked chocolate HEAVEN. My daughter in law had a popover with poached pears and marscapone…. and the waitress brought the french press right to the table for fresh decaf which we enjoyed with the desserts. It was a STELLAR evening and I would recommend OPEN RANGE to anyone living in or visiting Bozeman. Great parking in back just off Main ST. There are few restaurants out there that get it right….. Open Range has exceeded expectations! Thank you chef team and wait staff for a most lovely evening.
Cool meets Steakhouse. You owe yourself a meal or two or three here. Last night we stopped in for the burgers with blue cheese – fresh ground at the restaurant – like non other, really. Open space, good music, simple decor, not at all stuffy but simple and tasteful elegance.
GREAT ADDITION TO BOZEMAN. This new main street bistro is a lively and welcome addition to Main Street. The bar is welcoming and hip with knowledgeable and friendly bar tenders. The atmosphere is cosmopolitan but not overly so for what is after all a Montana gathering spot. The food offers something for meat and potatoes cowboys as well as sophisticates looking for more exotic fare. I had a very pleasant evening here with friends on my last visit to Bozeman. I’ll be back. Jack Kavanaugh, Denver
All in all, a good experience with great service and hospitality. As an interior designer, my first impression was good. I liked the scale of the lighting fixtures, but there wasn’t enough actual lighting to see the menu and food, particularly where we were seated. Our table was plopped in the middle of what seemed an odd space plan. The food was good. My Sea Bass was delicious, paired with a light mashed celery concoction and leeks which made the dish excellent. The steaks seemed over seasoned and over priced, but my companion’s ribeye was tasty. It was strange that they charge extra for steak sauce and horseradish, however. The chili came with a bag of Frito’s, an endearing touch, and PBRs were only $2, cutting the pretentiousness of other elements like a meager side salad that contained nothing out of the ordinary.
