Omg so grofs. I gotta say I’m from manhattan and if you’re classy like me you’ll hate dis playse
One of the best meals we’ve had. Great service, timely, knowledgeable, and unrushed. Food is great beautifully presented, subtlly spiced locally procured produce and protein and cleverly designed. The menu was great but go with the specials, watch the chef play. Great find.
Um … it was just okay. My husband and I were really excited about visiting this restaurant based on other reviews. After traveling all day, we were ready for a treat. Overall, though, it was disappointing. Starting at the front door, we were greeted and then told they would be right with us. After a fairly lengthy conversation between the host and waitress, they seated us in a dark corner of the restaurant. We could easily see there were plenty of tables in the sunny, main dining room. Did we offend them somehow? Maybe we weren’t dressed properly (jeans and t-shirts)? The hostess gave us menus for food and wine by the glass. When the waitress came, we asked if they had wine by the bottle. She seemed surprised that we would want to see it. Were we giving off some strange vibe? After viewing the menu, we both decided on pizza. When the waitress arrived to take our order, she assured us the pizza was excellent but that they ordered it from outside the restaurant and had no control over when it would show up. Could be after dessert. Really? An item on the menu that you are discouraged from ordering? So I ordered the lamb ragout and my husband ordered the scallops appetizer and shrimp bisque. The lamb ragout was bland and pretty tasteless. I rarely use table salt but I sprinkled it on pretty liberally. The homemade pasta itself was light and tasty. The shrimp bisque was also bland and had an off taste. Not like any bisque we’ve had before. The scallop and risotto appetizer was very good although for $14 we expected more than 2 scallops and a scoop of risotto. On the upside, we had a bottle of Charles and Charles Rose that was the highlight of our meal. The waitress was attentive without being bothersome and the food arrived in a reasonable amount of time.
An unexpected gem. We do not usually write reviews, but this one deserves it. Interesting range of selections, but not so broad that they cannot execute. There were a dozen things we would have tried. There were four interesting specials, but we ordered off the regular menu as it was already full of attractive choices. We had a house salad with the maple raspberry Vinaigrette dressing, and it was well executed, with the tartness of the vinegar nicely balanced by a very slight maple finish but with a nice raspberry nose. All fresh greens, onions had obviously been properly rinsed under cold water and were sweet, not burning. The soup of the day was a local beef barley and it was simply succulent. I asked if I could cancel my order for dinner and just get more soup, but luckily it was too late. Dinner entrees were the meatloaf, with smashed potatoes and fresh green beans ala haricots vert, and the bolognese pasta (traditional).Bread was a light fresh sourdough, very fresh light sweet creamy butter. Both very well executed. Meatloaf is a bacon wrapped slice of home-selected and house ground meats, excellent spice balance. Bolognese was as good as any I have had in Little Italy in NYC.Dessert was the Black Forest cake, more than large enough for two, and was spot on, thin layer of dark chocolate on top, very light butter creme layers alternated with a nearly perfect choclate cake lyer, the tower of a slice was about six inches high. Very nice, very nice.I have had much worse meals at Michelin two star restaurants. If you travel, you know what that means. And at a much better price..Portions were larger than novelle cuisine, plenty of food, but not the traditional massive American. We could not quite finish all, gave it up with a bit of the Black Forest cake still left. Service was outstanding. We are considering cancelling a day of Jackson to eat here again. It was that interesting.
Good food, maybe the best in town, but you pay for it…. Very good food. Exceptional service. Bozeman prices, but it’s probably worth it, because it is very hard to find food this good in Livingston. I do wish the portions were bigger, though. My other concerns are rather subjective. The interior seems a little vast and cold. The ceilings are high, the seating seems a bit awkward (booth/chair seating combination tables, set very close together) and the paint and lighting seem to accentuate the feeling space. I feel a place like this should seem more intimate. John Bozeman’s Bistro has the nailed, though the space they occupy definitely goes a long way toward making this possible (maybe inevitable). All things considered, the 2nd Street is at the top for dining in Livingston. If you want a nice dining experience, but aren’t considering going over the hill, you can’t miss here, especially if you factor in the cost and convenience factor. If you’re in the area for the evening, it’s a sure thing.
Never had a bad meal. I probably have been there 10 times and love it. Reasonably priced, clean, good service, I recommend it to anyone
Great Value!. Very good food at an affordable price, I can’t decipher why anyone would vote this place down. Insiders secret; if you order a pizza from the Murray Hotel Bar during happy hour you get a pizza for $5-an unbelievable deal. The pizza isn’t spectacular, but it is pretty good, especially for $5, (that is if that deal is still around). I have tried many appetizers from there, a few meals, the greek salad, and many kinds of pizza, and it was all better than the price would indicate from an outside assumption. Also, if you happen to be staying in Livingston for the night, I HIGHLY recommend staying at The Murray Hotel, a place I have stayed at many times, immensely enjoying the rich history and friendly staff.
