5.0 star rating 4/4/2017Date of visit: 3/30/17. We were new to Omaha and were there to visit the zoo. We googled where we can get Indian food and voila we were at Himalayas. We went there with our two kids. We were greeted very well and waitress who was serving us had good knowledge of the items on the menu and was courteous to suggest us dishes that were popular in the no-Beef/Pork category. We ordered mulligatawny soup, naan bread, chicken tandoori and Tikka masala. The food was served fresh, the cuts of meat were fresh and flavorful too. Something that fell below spice level was tikka masala although it suited the kids. So when we expressed the same to the waitress Kate, Pem Dorjee the Chef had made a house specialty masala curry for us. It was out of this world the spice level, the fragrance of the curry itself was so appetizing. Overall the service was good. The staff especially the chef Pem were friendly and excellent. The food is great! We will stop over to Himalayas each time we go to Omaha.
A Romantic atmosphere combines with a knowledgable chef and fairly good service to make for an enjoyable meal in the heart of Omaha’s Old Market district. This two level, indoor/outdoor Indian dining spot took over the space previously occupied (for over20 years) by Omaha’s first Indian restaurant. So I guess Indian cuisine is in the blood, or perhaps the bricks and mortar of the building. Expect to find most popular Indian dishes represented on the dinner menu, and somewhat fewer on the streamlined luncheon menu. Many breads are available on each. We sampled and loved the Garlic naan. The mulligatawny soup, though not the best in town, was worth ordering.I had the fish with coconut sauce. It was well flavored, but I thought the chunks of fish were a bit over cooked. My husband’s chicken korma was very good, on the other hand. Beers and wines, along with craft cocktails, are offered. Some decent local brews are on tap. Portions are large enough to share, even at lunch.Service was a tad slow, but we weren’t in a hurry, as we enjoyed our relaxing lunch on the covered patio, listening to the rain fall. It was all quite romantic.
