I had the opportunity to dine here for dinner tonight. It was relatively quiet given that it’s a Monday night but you wouldn’t necessarily know it from the service. The place is a fairly prototypical sports bar – lots of TVs exposed brick walls Keno board etc. Atmosphere isn’t your selling point if you’re here.It is also the home of Thunderhead Brewing and this is its calling card. The beer is very good and worth a visit on its own. I am partial to the honey wheat. Food wise the experience is decidedly more average. Despite giving the waitress a chance to up sell me to the best option I ended up with quesadillas, which were just okay and left me still hungry for more. I also had quest dippers which were underwhelming as a substitute for mozzarella sticks. On the plus side service was quick out of the kitchen. On the minus I was quickly forgotten once served and had to work to get my bill. When it did arrive the bill was close to $30 tip in. On the whole not a great value. At the end of the day I’d return for the beer and carefully weigh my options with the menu.

Scrumptious wings.. The Jamacian Jerk Wings and sweet and sour wings were out of this world wonderful. Will be back for more every chance I get. Friendly staff and great use of an old building put to good use.

Fantastic. Had the chicken fingers and fries. i’m not at all a bbq fan, but they had the tastiest bbq sauce i’ve ever experienced. would definitely visit again.

Updated Review. It had been nearly three years since my last review of The Chicken Coop. Time for a refresh. The menu has been enlarged, and includes decent dinner choices, including a couple of steaks, ribs, salmon and walleye, salads and appetizers, and of course, chicken. The fries don’t look as good as in the past, but the salmon and chicken dishes are well presented, and the nachos are huge, and tasty. Perhaps best of all, the beers are very good. Several are locally produced. The beer menu changes with the season.Service was friendly, and reasonably prompt. Prices are fair. All in all, this is not a bad choice for an informal dinner, or just beer and munchies. It is located right downtown.07 Oct, 2010Decent food, quick service. This place used to be a brewpub. It still sort of looks like one. And they serve locally brewed beers. The menu is rather pedestrian, but the food is decent and the service fast and friendly. Great French fries.

Careful of Tips. We ate at the Chicken Coop on August 12, 2012. Food was mediocre and service about the same to slightly lower. For various reasons I didn’t get around to checking the receipt against my bank statement for almost two months. I found a $5.00 discrepancy. As a frequent business traveler I always make sure to mark the final amount on my copy of the receipt and always round my tip to the nearest dollar. In this case my receipt shows an odd dollar amount with a total $5.00 more than I recorded. I drank only diet Coke. I was part of a group so they automaticlly added the tip to the bill; given the poor service I was definitely not inclined to giver her more.Upon calling the store I was told that they couldn’t credit my card because of the elapsed time. He wanted to give me or my family a gift card instead; however I don’t live there and have only eaten there twice. The only reason I went back the second time was because one of the local family picked it (my first experience wasn’t great either). This also was irksome because:1. The gift card is actually less value to me. They probably run a 40% gross margin which means the actual food/service value is about $3.00.2. He couldn’t seem to figure out that they can write a check!I didn’t push the point. They can keep the $5.00 and I’ll never go back, even if suggested by local family. In addition I’ll spend the time to write this review, something I have only done once before.
