About
The state name, Nebraska, comes from the Otoe Indian word NIBRATHKA, meaning flat water. The Otoes named the Platte River Nibrathka for its flat and calming characteristics. Settlers heading west came upon the Platte River and found it lying in the path of the westward expansion. Rather than seeing it as another obstacle on their arduous journey, most found it to be a comforting stop during their travels and used the time there to REST, REGROUP, AND NOURISH before moving on. It is our intent to make The Flatwater a relaxing place for our guests to find good food, place to unwind and relax before carrying on about their day. From the warm and relaxing environment of our dining room and covered patio, to the prepared from scratch menu and our attentive staff, we truly hope to embody those same characteristics that the settlers cherished from the 'flat water' so many years ago.
