Amazing food and great service. This place got some best of the sushi I have try. I had Ichiban roll, edamame and some sake. The fish taste really fresh and ocean. Edamame is also great, with some sake it really made my day.

A Nice Asian Addition to Kearney. This medium sized Asian restaurant focuses on both cooked Japanese food as well as a full sushi menu. A few Chinese dishes fill out the extensive menu.I had two rolls, plus tempura shrimp and veggies, and salmon. The California roll was a typical California roll. The spicy tuna roll was spot-on in taste, with just enough spice to make your taste buds sit up and take notice. The salmon was tender and moist, and the tempura shrimp and veggies each brought a smile to my face. The atmosphere is clean and attractive, though a bit under decorated. A small sushi bar adds some variety to the front of the room. The background music was an alternative mix of American pop. It actually worked well, and was not played too loudly.Service was fast and friendly. Prices were a few dollars more than what you might pay at restaurants with less adventuresome menu offerings. All in all, Gourmet House proves that you can enjoy decent Japanese food in the heart of Nebraska.

The only place in Kearney you can get real sushi and sashimi.A little pricey, but totally worth it!!

Japanese well done. The only Japanese game in town. I enjoy eating here, although it’s not what i’m used to in the big city, the sushi is fresh and certainly worthy of the price. The apps are good (tempura done right shrimp tempura is excellent) and Teriyaki is excellent. I wouldn’t necessarily recommend their japanese noodle dish unless you REALLY like veggies in them. Pork cutlet is excellent. Miso soup is done just right and side salad (although crappy iceberg – yuck) has en excellent cucumber dressing. I do really like one app (which is totally ghetto) which are the crab sticks – mock crab in tempura -lol. Never had the Japanese curry so not sure, they also have a selection of chinese dishes for those not inclined to sushi or afraid to try mainline japanese food. The tea is excellent (iced or hot) but i don’t get soda here AS IT COMES IN A CAN – don’t understand that at all – but knowing the owner i’d imagine it’s a profit generating thing. They have excellent lunch prices so I find myself going at that time the most. Bottom line is that this place has excellent food and the only Japanese you’ll find in Kearney. I cannot say best in south central NE as I need to try the new places in Grand Island, which I have heard good reviews.
