The Flippin Sweet is a delightful twist to the Kearney restaurant scene. It’s flavorful pies reminded me of Pitch in Omaha but with more approachable ingredients for casual diners.The restaurant has a cramped parking lot which reflects it’s cozy interior. The atmosphere is great and my service was wonderful. The menu is movie themed with great descriptions of the pies. I had the Pineapple Express which is basically a fancier Hawaiian pizza. As I’ve already mentioned, the pizza was great. On a return visit I ordered The Dude and I loved the twist of curry.I love seeing creative and tasty restaurants in a small town. The prices can be a shock for small town folks but they’re very reasonable when compared to similar restaurants. My only criticism was the 45 minute wait for my pizza when the place wasn’t busy. No pizza should take more than 20 minutes to build and bake. On a return visit I had to wait 30 minutes for a large pizza.Overall, I was very impressed with the Flippin Sweet and I will definitely come back.
Terrible pick-up service, don’t bother calling the landline to order food they do not pick up. I called in every ten minutesfor an hour and they did not pickup once, I just got the same poorly recorded message that asks you to call back instead of putting you on hold.I love the food, but we’re calling someone else for our take-away
This was surprisingly wonderfully delicious pizza. I say surprisingly because it’s in Kearney, NE, is small and dimly lit, and what looks like to be an old service station. So my expectations were not high. Despite the somewhat uncomfortable atmosphere and challenging parking, I enjoyed my meal immensely. I custom made my own pizza with pepperoni, peppers, pepperoncini, and red onions. It was perfectly cooked and to die for. The red sauce is fresh and delicious. The crust is chewy and tasty. They had nice modern music playing in the background. The service was attentive and friendly. Recommended by a Denverite.
Been there a few times.. It is quite slow to get your food so make sure you have the time to spare.. But it is usually pretty good.. It’s a nice change of pace when you get tired of regular pizza.. I definitely recommend it!
The Flippin Sweet is an odd name for a restaurant. If you can get by that fact, you will probably enjoy your meal there.Located along highway 30 on the north edge of downtown, this smallish pizza and sandwich shop turns out some pretty good pizza. The salads are also worth a shout out, as they have a strong visual appeal, and are as delicious tasting as the are pretty to look at.Most customers clearly come for the pizza, however, judging by how many people showed up to pick up take out pizza, plus all the dine-in pizzas that passed by me on the way to other tables. The pizzas, like the salads, tend to be a visual work of art. The menu has no shortage of interesting ingredient combinations. Mine came with pistachios, among other toppings. Of course you can mix and match toppings to fit your mood.The restaurant design is kitschy cute in a hipster, Boulder, Colorado sort of way. It is a fun place in which to dine and drink. Speaking of which, many excellent craft beers are offered by the bottle. I really liked the selection, which always features new seasonal options.One note of caution: the restaurant has an annoying habit of running out of basic ingredients, such as tomatoes(!), and apparently the thought of walking 1 or 2 blocks to the nearby grocery store never occurred to management. And in summer be prepared to swat flies incessantly, as they refuse to keep the roll-up garage doors fully closed, even in sweltering 95 degree heat. These quirks prevent me from giving Flippin’ Sweet a higher rating.Bottom line: funky atmosphere, wonderful beer selection, good food and okay service. I will happily return to further explore the menu, especially when the flies aren’t biting.
Great food, terrible service.. Pleasant atmosphere inside the restaurant and the food is fantastic, but the cons of the place far outweigh the pros.The Flippin Sweet has a tendency to replace key ingredients on menu items when short of supply without informing the customer, such as replacing the arugula with spinach on the Tenenbaum pizza in two separate occasions. The entire pizza is supposed to be covered in arugula, for goodness’s sakes! In addition to that, in the three times that I can recall ordering Porkey’s Revenge, I have been told each time that the item was not available at the time, which leads to the suspicion that maybe this item is actually a myth and does not exist. Air conditioning is awful–way too hot during the summer and way too cold during the winter. Extremely slow service, but that HAS improved slightly recently.
A nice surprise in the middle of Nebraska. I feel compelled to speak positively about this place. I am always highly annoyed with the long drive through NE, but being able to stop in here almost changes my mood completely. The ordering process leaves a little to be desired, but once you get your pizza you will forget all about it.
