we were in the restaurant on 9/10/16 and had the worst meal of our life. Drinks, appetizer and salads were good but once our main dish came for my husband and I it went drastically down hill fast. We both ordered the stuff prime rib that cost $31.00 each. When it came out it did look good but the au juice was ice cold around the cold meat and stuffing on the inside. We each learned this by taking a bite out of each of our meals. The server took the meals back to the kitchen to get new meals that were cooked and hot. When the meal came out for the second time…we know it was the same pieces cuz of the bites taken out of them…so we got the same ones back. We had ordered the prime rib to medium that should be 145 to 155 degrees. Second meal was still cold and as I call it…pee warm if that. Manager who brought them over came back to check on us and we told him that it is still cold. he said he would take them back to the kitchen again and when he returned with menus to find dinner for the third time…we told him we could just take the check for what we did eat. he insisted we order a new entre’ so we each ordered a pasta dish. as he walked away he mumbled that he would take the two meals that were cold off our check. REALLY HE REALLY THOUGHT WE WOULD PAY FOR DINNER BEING COLD!!!! NEVER WILL WE GO BACK TO THAT RESTURANT. HORRIBLE 2.5 HOURS OF OUR LIFE. THIS HAS NOT BEEN OUR EXPERIENCE THE NUMEROUS TIMES THAT WE’D BEEN THERE IN THE PAST.

Terrible Food. Do not believe the reviews about new management. My husband and I dined at Charlies on 5/23/14. While waiting for a table outside, we ordered drinks at the bar. The drinks were good but we had the displeasure of listening to wait staff complain about other diners to the bartenders while we waited. This was the theme of the evening: inappropriate, unprofessional, inept staff. At this point we debated about leaving. We should have. Our waiter was actually fine but we were lucky in that regard. One staff member was wearing shorts so short, they could hardly be called appropriate restaurant attire. They would hardly be appropriate stripper attire. We were eventually sat outside at a random hodgepodge of uncomfortable old patio furniture. We had the Gorgonzola crusted oysters as an appetizer. They were not good at all. You could identify the bacon and only the bacon. Even the Gorgonzola had barely any flavor. Then came our actual meals. My husband had the seafood enchiladas which were a crusted hard mess that had almost no flavor. I had the Charlies Grouper that was a hair above sending it back. The sauce was somehow over salted and still lacked any discernible flavor. Some of the asparagus was cooked to mush while other pieces were under cooked. The fish itself was very bland and I highly doubt was Grouper at all. When we complained to our waiter, he apologized and said he would send over the manager. No one appeared so we paid our ridiculously overpriced garbage and left. We will not be back.
Sorry Charlie. I attended a corporate dinner at Charlie’s on the Lake, remembering it for the restaurant I enjoyed quite a few years ago. Nope! Charlie’s ain’t what it used to be. It’s in bad need of an interior refresh and while they’re at it they need to refresh their menu’s food quality. Our appetizers were just OK. The bread, served bakery style in a white paper sleeve, was very good. But my 18 ounce New York Strip steak was not up to the standards one would expect for the price and expectations one has for a finer dining restaurant like Charlie’s. This steak could have been served in Applebee’s. So I’m sorry Charlie…but you’ve slipped. Can’t recommend you.
Will never return. We were out for a quiet dinner for two at Charlies the other evening. Had never been here before and will never return. It was not because of the food or the service. It was because of the four letter word that the owner was screaming at some poor girl who had the misfortune of working there. I have no respect for a place that treats their employees like dirt.
Overpriced Underwhelming. We stopped going to Charlie’s a couple years ago due to the quality of the food and waitstaff. We decided to try it again as we heard they would be operating a new restaurant in the old Ricks Boatyard location. Unfortunately time did not cure the issues, though our waitress was very pleasant and timely, there was another waiter who spoke entirely too loud and was not as amusing as he most likely thought he was being. The food was overpriced for the taste experience. Definitely off the list again.
Horrible service reflects on management. I attended a wedding reception this past weekend at Charlie’s. The food was pretty good and the decor was pretty, but slightly cramped. The service was horrible. I worked in the restaurant industry for 10 years, so I know a large group like this, things get overlooked by servers. Ours forgot to bring me a glass of wine I ordered. Fine- forgivable. What is NOT is acceptable is that when I was brought my bill, and I pointed out that she still charged me for the glass I never received, the server told me that after talking to the manager, she REFUSED to take it off. The server seemed as appalled as I was and actually gave me cash out of her pocket to pay for the glass of wine. She then came back later and said there was a glass of wine sitting at the bar for hours that no one claimed, and said she thought someone took the wrong one (mine) and left theirs. However, she did not offer to give me THAT glass of wine- so I still was forced to pay for a glass of wine someone else enjoyed. Horrible management. The restaurant made what they paid for that bottle of wine off one glass that I ordered. Even if I WAS wrong, and forgot I had another glass (which I was not) they should have taken it off.
