Not so fall off the bone ribs. I heard a couple of friends rave about Dickeys so we decided to try it last night. I had the ribs and they were very chewy and fatty….extremely disappointing. My wife had the brisket sandwich and was burned. Bad experience and won’t be going back there again.
OK, but pricey. Decent, but nothing to write home about. My wife had the pulled pork sandwich and a side order of coleslaw. The pulled pork was shredded nicely but lacked flavor. It is served without sauce. When you add the sauce ( there were 3 types available: Original, spicy and sweet) it was OK. My wife loved the coleslaw. I had the westerner sandwich, which is a larger sandwich with a choice of 2 meats. . They have 7 different meats available. I tried the pulled pork and brisket. It was pretty good, but did not have a lot of meat on it. For sides I had the mac & cheese, very creamy and cheesy. I also had the fried okra. It was very good. The free soft serve ice cream was better then most that I have had. Personally, I think that there are many better barbecue places in town.April 2016Came back again and have to update my last review because it was way better this time. Now that they have been open awhile, I have noticed many improvements. The meat I had this time was way more flavorful and there was way more of it too. All of the sauces seem to be betteralso. This time we also tried the baked potato casserole and found it to be very good. The free ice cream is still a nice bonus. Still not my favorite BBQ place, but now much higher up on my Omaha BBQ list.
This was my first visit to the new location on 120th and center streets in Omaha…I had a to go order and my beef brisket was lukewarm plus the baked beans taste like they were from the can. the waffle fries were okay but there were not many with my order…not thrilled…
Fried okra is a must try. Some of the things I loved about BBQ joints traveling through Oklahoma and Texas was the tender brisket, smoked sausages, and the fried okra. Since this is a Texas based chain, I was hoping to duplicate at least part of that experience last night. The fried okra was perfect and wonderful. I had to go back up and get a 2nd order. I would stop by for this item alone. The Polish sausage was tasty. The brisket and pulled pork was just ok. Good flavor but a bit dry for my liking. I think there were enough positives that I will need to do some further exploring.
Really just horrible. I don’t think it’s possible to have smaller portions than here. And how do you have good bbq when you pull it luke warm from a plastic baggie and slap it on a stale bun? I also tasted no smoke in what I did eat.
Still Craving BBQ. At times I can be a bit of a BBQaholic. When I crave it I want it…gotta have it! Problem is there is not a good BBQ joint that is in a convenient location to me. I was pretty happy that a well known BBQ place was opening in central Omaha, even if it was a chain. After reading very mixed reviews on Dickeys in other locations, I was anxious to try it. I stopped in on a Monday to get dinner to go for myself and my friend. Smaller place…located in the old Maggie Moos ice cream shop. The employee behind the counter was very welcoming, asking me if Id ever eaten at a Dickeys. He went out of his way to tell me how he had never heard of them or eaten there until this location opened, and he said he had never eaten such good BBQ in his life. I was excited! After straining my neck to read the menu which was hung high above the counter, I decided on the 12 rack rib dinner, and the pulled pork sandwich dinner. Was looking forward to trying their BBQ baked beans…but they sold out of them. What? How does that happen? They said they would probably get more in tomorrow. So apparently they dont make them fresh, as was obvious for the ribs they took out of a holding warmer wrapped in waxed paper. The pulled pork was stored the same way.Even at that as I drove home and smelled the food I was excited to get home to try it. Disappointment followed as I took my first bite of the ribs. There was really very little meat on the bones, and after pulling two of them out I was able to tear off enough meat for a bite. Was it tender…yes…it sorta fell off the bone, but it was dry. I was barely able to detect a smokiness to it…it was just bland. Went on to the pulled pork sandwich. Same problem…tender but very dry and a lack of flavor. I was surprised to see the sandwich was topped with sliced pickles and onions. Odd…not something Id ever want on my pulled pork sandwich. Even after removing them the taste of pickles had already seeped into the pork. I ended up drenching the sandwich with BBQ sauce, which I never would do to good smoked BBQ. I didnt use their BBQ sauce as I have my own favorite at home. Once I covered the sandwich with BBQ sauce it was edible, although I still couldnt cover up the taste of the pickles. For sides we had macaroni and cheese, green beans and baked potato casserole. All tasted just as you would expect…nothing memorable. Would have liked to try the baked beans, but honestly after everything else I dont feel like I missed anything. For the $20 plus dollars the meal cost, I would have been better off driving out of my way to one of my favorites. Stick with the local owned BBQs…Boxer BBQ in CB, Hartland BBQ in Benson, or even drive to Well Smoke U in Gretna…they all know what they are doing. Still craving BBQ after my visit to Dickeys
