Pad Khee Mao (Spicy Basil Noodles, Drunken Noodles). OMG! This is the best version of this dish I’ve had. The noodles are cooked just right, not over cooked and mushy like some place can be. In fact this is the best version out of all the Thai restaurants in Carson and Reno! Get it with limes and squeeze the juice over the noodles … wow, love that combo with the basil. It’s a spicy dish!09 Dec, 2014Best New Thai Restaurant In Carson City. Siam Classic is the newest Thai restaurant to open in South Carson City. It’s located at the old location of the now closed Beijing Palace Chinese restaurant, just behind the Save Mart in South Carson City. If the food here seems familiar, that’s because the chef is from the Thai Spice Kitchen that used to be open in downtown. Yang’s Chinese restaurant is there now. Gina is back from Reno and now has Siam Classic running. The interior has been spruced up a bit from the old Chinese restaurant and is nice and inviting with booths along one wall and nicely appointed tables in he middle of the room. The place feels less crowded with furniture than it did at the Chinese restaurant.I just love this place so much, I’ve already been 3 times and the place just opened Dec 1, 2014. Entering we were warmly greeted and sat at a center table. There is even a big round table for larger parties with a lazy susan thingy in the middle to rotate the food on so you can eat family style the way Thai food was meant to be shared. On my dinner visit we tried the Thai Garlic and pepper chicken ($8.95), Chicken Larb ($8.95) and the Pad Woo Sen ($8.95). As you can see the pricing here is reasonable and uniform across the menu except for sea food items add $2.. Pad Woo Sen is Thai Glass Noodles stir fried with cabbage, celery, egg, carrot, bean sprouts and onions, served with your choice of chicken, beef or pork or shrimp. The cook really knows how to use that wok! I could taste the great wok seared flavor coming through. The Larb is (yes, funny name), ground chicken mixed with cilantro and lime and mint served on lettuce leaves. You gotta try this one, really authentic. The garlic and pepper chicken was wonderful as well. Chicken sauteed with black pepper and garlic and served with steamed rice. For my lunch visit I had the Pad Kee Mao, or also known as Drunken Noodles or Spicy Basil Noodles. This is one of my all time fave Thai dishes. It’s sort of like Thai style Chinese chow fun, with the wide rice noodles, but flavored with Thai basil and garlic, mushrooms and onions. This was a 5 star out of 5 rendition! I’ve had this dish where it was not so good, but here it was spectacular. I get mine 3 star spicy out of 5. If you are just starting out with spicy foods you might want to go with 1 or 2 stars. But if you consider yourself a spicy food fiend, go for the 5 stars! There is also a tray of spicy condiments you can request. I ordered the full dinner size ($8.95).So the food is spectacular, but as with most restaurants that just open, they need a little time to work out all the service and kitchen kinks. Yeah, the service may not be a polished and a big fancy Thai place in a big city, but just relax and have a Thai Iced Tea. I think the kitchen will speed up once they work out the workflow and are able to up the capacity. We really needed a new Thai restaurant here in Carson City, to fill the middle ground between super fancy and expensive and too casual cafeteria like. Siam Classic seems to fill that gap. Give it a try!
