I have been going to Nora’s for years-every time I found myself in Las Vegas. The food has always been wonderful and the service great. Last night was an exception. Food was still great. However, the service was TERRIBLE. We had incomplete place settings (issue was finally resolved after three requests) not offered drinks before they took our order, our waitress disappeared after our food was served and the hostess was rude as we were leaving. I have eaten all over the US and have never been treated so rudely. Apparently they are taking their press clippings to heart… will not go back!
I was recommended it by a local, and loved it. The ambiance was casual nice, the service was outstanding but not annoying. Food was very good to include the standard Italian fare and a few house specials. I recommend it if you’re looking for something quiet away from the strip.
Alrighty, I’m putting off all pretenses of food snobbery. I like ghetto-Italian food (and I mean that with all respect). There is nothing more delicious than a bowl of pasta, floating five different oils and fats, and loaded down with cholesterol-clogging meat. Yeah, Yeah… of course they don’t do that in Italy! It’s an American creation (or abomination, depending on who you talk to). GOD BLESS AMERICA. So, pretenses aside, I am naming my favorite bite of 2016… THE CRAZY ALFREDO. The Crazy Alfredo is pure bastardization of classic fettuccine alfredo. It takes classic alfredo, then loads it down with chicken, sausage, jumbo shrimp, porcini mushrooms, domestic mushrooms, roasted bell peppers, sun-dried tomatoes and jalapeos. Yes, that’s right, jalapenos… just in case the former didn’t give you heartburn. It may sounds over-the-top (and it is) but when it arrived at the table, I could not stop smelling it. It was amazing, it’s a rich brown butter smell, like a pastry, but then it had deep earthtones, coming from the mushrooms, and higher notes of jalapeno and sun-dried tomatoes. I couldn’t pinpoint the exact ingredients, but it all melded together so perfectly. I’ve never had pure truffles before (just truffle butter and oil) but I can’t imagine anything better than this. The taste was good, it was super, super rich. I only ate a few mouthfuls and I was done. Waaaay too heavy, but the first few bites were heavenly. I took the rest home and I’ve smelled it every day until I had to throw it out (lol). It reheated well, even though the noodles did get little mushy. We also ordered the Al Prosciutto pizza (garlic, oregano, parmesan cheese, arugula, mozzarella, diced tomatoes, prosciutto) as an appetizer. It had generous slices of prosciutto on typical NY-style crust, crisped to perfection. It was delicious. The non-foody bf played it safe and got the Lasagna. It was good but it wasn’t anything I couldn’t find in a handful of other places around town. In other words, it wasn’t anything special. This place gets mixed reviews, and honestly, their menu is so big, I wouldn’t be surprised if two different people went there and had completely polar opposite experiences. But I know I’ll go back for their pizza and their Crazy Alfredo. Make sure to make reservations as the place was packed.
Great Italian cooking that never fails. The special garlic bread go great. With the sauce of any pasta you order. You’ll feel like a made man. As you dine and enjoy the atmospheres.
Old School Feel, Old School Quality. A first dinner experience for me at Nora’s, although recommended by the birthday girl in our party. The interior belies the strip mall location. You enter another time as well. The bar has a modest, elegant feel, and the mixed drinks are top notch. The main dining room is noisy and busy. Many silver-haired patrons, but the later crowd tends to be younger. Calamari and arancini (fried risotto balls) to start were both ample to feed a full table. Eggplant parmesan, scampi, lasagne, and Crazy Alfredo made up the main courses. I thought the food was the best Italian I’ve had this side of Boston and New York. The server was attentive, polite, and quick about requests. The front of the house staff were very welcoming and provided a hand arranging a taxi.Nora’s is a $14 cab ride from City Center or roughly 10-15 minutes by car from The Strip at the southeast corner of West Flamingo and South Jones.
The review by bitter disaptointment is not correct as I watched the chefs inthe open kitchen cooking the pasta came out of a large pot of boiling waterthen in to a fry pan with the sauce that is the reason it is served hot instead of whining where the hostess was you should have watched the cooking04 Apr, 2013Best kept secret in las Vegas $56 for two great Italian food make sure you try it
My wife and I go to Nora’s about once a month. The food is always very good. The service also is very prompt for such a busy place. If you don’t mind the noise,go and enjoy.
