201612PRIX FIXE3POACHED OYSTERS FOIE GRAS AU TORCHON ROASTED MAINE LOBSTER Picasso2
Picasso is an expensive but excellent 2 Michelin star-rated restaurant with excellent view of the Bellagio fountains. There was a prix fixe menu as well as a chef’s tasting menu. The restaurant is decorated with authentic Picasso paintings. Some things that were excellent: the amuse bouche, the oysters with caviar (these were the best oysters that I have ever had, cleaned and impeccably presented), the scallops, the lobster salad, and the cold foie gras. The cocktail that we tried (blue period) was delicious. The chocolate fondant, pigeon and pea soup were very good. The snapper was good but nothing to write home about. Service was excellent and prices were very high. Shorts are not permitted but jackets are not required.
Had to come back the next evening with a booking because of the CES rush. Sat in front of a USD 20 Million Picasso painting sipping an aperitif! The food was exquisite. Ambience worth the $$$. And the Joconde dessert was lipsmacking!
A meal at Picasso’s is an experience that you shouldn’t pass up. Basically, there are two menus — a Chef’s Choice, +/- wine pairings and a Prix Fixe, +/- wine pairings. The Prix Fixe has a few more choices and we opted for the Prix Fixe + wine pairings. The pea soup delicately infused with mint was a light first course. This was followed by foie gras which was served on toast and accompanied by a fruity jam. The foie gras was served slightly cool which I think contirbuted to the delicate texture. Aaah, but the crowning glory of the meal was the veal chop. It was perfection — flavorful, tender and perfectly prepared. The horseradish sauce, served on the side, was powerful! All wines selected to accompany the various courses were spot-on, especially the rioja with the veal. The cheese plate for dessert was more than enough for three people, let alone one person. The cheeses were varied in flavor, texture and origin. The service was gracious, knowledgeable, exemplary. The entire experience was sublime and I’m eager to return.
Best meal in Vegas. Have been coming to Vegas once a year for many years for business. My recent dinner at Picasso was the best meal that I have had in Vegas. Had the poached oysters, white asparagus and venison medallions. all very well prepared. It was a great meal. Service was also very friendly and attentive without being overdone.
Picasso is lovely, if a bit overpriced. I wouldn’t call it amazing but it is a predictable high end experience. The restaurant is huge. And in true Vegas style it’s pretty over the top. I would like it better if it was a smaller more intimate experience. But due to it’s size, it lacks the intimacy that I think they were trying to achieve. I’ve certainly had better food, but they must be commended for the quality considering how much food is coming out of the kitchen at any one time. Service is very good. The sommelier is rushed though, and his guidance feels scripted. The wine has a massive mark up, which is why we opted for the wine pairings with the meal.
