Delicious Cornish pasty however absolutely terrible table service. We were seated in the restaurant portion and the waitresses ignored our table entirely. Sticky toffee pudding was dry and tough, sadly.
Every road trip hits a bump in the road…this was our bump. Our group agreed we wanted fish and chips, so this was our choice. English Pub environment with a good beer selection. We happened onto All You Can Eat Fish & Chips Tuesday and thought we were in luck. Thecod was flakey and moist with a delicate breading. It was really bland in the English tradition. Adding salt and malt vinegar didn’t bring it up to a flavorful level that satisfied any of us. Two of us have been to England, and agreed that it was much better there. I believe some seasoning must be used in the cooking process to bring out flavor. None of us asked for the free seconds. The canned peas are imported from England and, you guessed it, bland. Adding salt and vinegar did help them immensely. I should have tried the Bangers & Mash.
Since it was the rare occasion that we had a car in Las Vegas, we decided to venture off the strip a little and happened upon the Crown & Anchor near the UNLV campus. The dcor gives you a feel of a mix between English Pub and old Vegas Bar, complete with Video Poker around the bar. We had Bangers & Mash, Cottage Pie, Steak & Mushroom Pie and Cornish Pastie. All were quite good and steaming hot on arrival. The Peas were rather bland and needed a kick of salt, but the Meats were all to our liking. We wouldn’t hesitate to go back if we have the opportunity. diningoutdfw.com
