Review for San Antonio right on. You are right…he has sold out to investors who are destroying MCBq slowly but surely…sad.

Dried out, bland tasting barbecue; This is not competition quality barbecue. Brisket, ribs and sausage lacked spice; I’ve had the pleasure of meeting with Mike and his daughter personally to discuss competition barbecue preparation, smoking and presentation. My observation is that these restaurants do not follow any of Mikes competition practices and as a result, this is simply below average barbecue. It is as if he sold naming rights and rights to use his likeness in advertising to an outsider for these restaurants. I’ve tried each of the in Las Vegas and the one in Illinois too. Thumbs down on all of them! Once again … For great barbecue, you’ve got to go to Texas! Enjoy!

Too much sauce. Is it that people want a lot of sauce on their meat or do restaurants think they do? All I find is BBQ swimming in sauce and that is what I found here. Ribs, pulled pork and brisket (which did not seem to actually be smoked at all) all with lots of the same sauce on it. What I would do for a dry rub rib with no sauce. Anyway, food was just ok. Nothing to rush back for.

My husband is a BBQ fan. We usually go to Lucille’s and will never wander from there again. This place was dirty. I ordered the sliders so I could taste 3 different choices of meat. The pulled pork was the best of the three although it was dry. The chicken tasted old and dry. The brisket was the worst. Chewy and even drier than the others. The little rolls they were served on were so stale that they were inedible! Vegetables – creamed corn and green beans were out of a can. My husband’s rack of ribs were mediocre. You can get better at Vons in the hot food section. Skip this place!!

Really good! Had the two meat plate with pork shoulder and links, with creamed corn and collard greens. Everything was great, really tasted like good southern BBQ. Made me miss home!

Acceptable alternative when I really want Gates or Bryants BBQ. The brisket is very good. The catfish was enjoyed by my Southern guests, though they didn’t think much of the hush puppies. The red beans and rice are really good. In the past I’ve been very disappointed in the beef ribs because they were cut horizontally so that instead of the full rack ordered, you actually got perhaps 1/4 rack. So we just don’t order them any more. The sauce is OK, but I prefer it on the side. That way if it’s too sweet, which it sometimes is, I can use my Bryants or Gates sauce instead. Overall, it’s BBQ, though I must admit it makes me homesick for Bryants and Gates in Kansas City. But, when I’m really craving BBQ and don’t feel like doing it myself, this place will satisfy the craving.
