Not even close. Whoever said this pizza is authentic NYC pizza has never been to New York City much less Brooklyn. The crust tasted like cardboard. The sauce tasted like it had sugar poured into it.I will say that the workers were very nice and helpful.
Grimaldi’s in Las Vegas???. As a veteran of NY/Brooklyn pizza joints, I had to see if the Grimaldi’s in Vegas was remotely close to its East Coast roots. As I walked into the restaurant, it most definitely did not feel like I was on Fulton St., under the Brooklyn Bridge. I was pleasantly surprised to see the coal burning brick oven. The menu was similar, and as the pies were coming out, they looked vaguely similar too. I ordered a sausage, pepperoni and mushroom. 10 minutes later the pizza arrived, and after the addition of Romano cheese and pepper flakes, chomped down on my first slice. Whoa…..that wasn’t bad at all! Still, it wasn’t quite the same as the original…I couldn’t figure out what the difference was. Iasked the manager if he was familiar with the difference and he said it’s a slightly different oven…I wasn’t buying it. I actually returned a day later, ordered another, and spoke with the host…who grew up in Brooklyn, and was very familiar with the difference. She said without a doubt, it’s the water. You really can taste the difference. Grimaldi’s Vegas style is a great pie…probably one of the best west of the Mississippi, and east of Tony’s in San Francisco. It will be interesting to see how it stacks up to another Brooklyn pie makings its way to Vegas: Di Fara’s (opening Fall of 2011)
Great pizza, just make sure to order way ahead if you are picking up. Said 20 min and 35 minutes later we have our pizza
Great Pizza & Atmosphere!. Since this place opened, we’ve visited everytime we had a craving for pizza. The pizza is great & they a great selection of toppings. The salads are good & plentiful. They have on OK wine list and a full bar with an outdoor patio. The staff has always been friendly & johnny on the spot with refills. They mixed up our order once (They had cleaned the ovens & got behind), they apologized, fixed the order & didn’t charge us for the screw up, without our asking for it! That’s customer service!
Go for the service not the pizza. I’ll click the like button for the service. Kayla at the bar was one of the friendliest and most attentive servers that I have ever had. All the staff were fantastic in fact. I would return to this location for a drink and a salad. The Mediterranean was perfectly dressed and a very generous portion. The pizza is mediocre. The crust was like a cracker and not at all true NY as they try to claim.
Yikes. The first 36 of my 43 years on this earth were spent in New York – 18 miles east of Brooklyn. This is not NY style pizza. IMHO Grimaldi’s disproves the notion that even bad pizza is pretty good. Flat sauce, character-free cheese, and a crust reminiscent of a toasted saltine cracker. In a word – yikes!
Had my first Grimaldi’s pizza last night from the new store on S. Rainbow. Awesome pie! Cannot wait to work my way around the menu.
