If youve read my previous reviews, you likely already know that buffets are something I tend to avoid. The preparation of the food is often on a mass- production scale, which means quality standards are often not met. The food usually sits for longer than it should, relying on a heat source to keep it warm and it often deteriorates at a fast clip. The service is often spotty and there is a tendency for guests to overeat in spite of the sup- par quality of the food. These objections are enough to keep me away from most buffets, but there are some exceptions to the rule and one of them is Garden Buffet. This large restaurant is located inside South Point Hotel and Casino and it serves a very wide variety of foods, beverages, and desserts with a level of quality exceeding that of most other buffet- style restaurants. I dined here for breakfast and I was impressed at the number of foods available, not to mention the generally good quality of everything I piled on my plate, from the pancakes to the scrambled eggs to the muffins. They seem like they provide special care to the food they serve and the food tasted fresher than that of other buffets, which is more than can be said for other, like restaurants. As I said, one of the standouts at Garden Buffet is the variety of foods and this is noticeable no matter what meal you are served. We dined here for breakfast and when I headed to the buffet, I expected to find breakfast style foods and nothing more. But Garden Buffet surprised me. Thy served Asian food, salads, and even fancy, flavorful ice cream. This is perfect for the more finicky eaters among us, many of whom may not want the foods normally associated with a specific meal of the day. Buffets often lack in the service department but once again, Garden Buffet shines in this area. The wait staff did take a little longer than I would prefer to get our initial beverage order delivered to our table, but I can forgive them because it was extremely busy at the time. Besides, once they brought the first round, they were very attentive after that, refilling our glasses regularly and bringing us extra napkins, utensils, etc. without even asking. Im still not much of a buffet person for countless reasons, but Garden Buffet is one of the better buffet restaurants and one I recommend. The food beats the food served at other buffets and where else can you dine that is just footsteps away from a large, full service casino? It adds up to a place worth checking out for your next meal on the up-and-coming south Las Vegas strip. greatbeernow.com

Not great, but not bad. Went in for brunch on Sunday. Decent crowd, but not slammed. Around $20 for food and bottomless mimosas, which I think drops to $10 during the week with bloodys. Pretty good selection, but the layout seems a bit scattered.

—-Nov, 2017 update: My excuse for dining at this buffet is it is convenient for having breakfast prior to catching a plane for home. We also used a coupon so one meal was free and the second was paid by slot points. The breakfast includes a bloody Mary which is not nearly as good as can be found at the bars for $1 prior to noon. I started with a plate of mixed fruit and yogurt that was pretty good though some of it obviously came out of a jar. I then limited my self to one more plate that included my Las Vegas guilty pleasures, bacon and corned beef plus easy over eggs. Would I pay full retail? No, but for the price of a gratuity I might, though not guaranteed, find my way to the buffet line again. —-May, 2017 update: I was more than a little hesitant to dine a the Garden Buffet in the South Point after being disappointed with the weekend brunch the past 2 visits, but a $10 dining coupon combined with a free breakfast/lunch coupon alleviated some of my fears. I started off with a free Bloody Mary and a plate of fresh fruit with yogurt. My second and last plate included a surprisingly good cooked to order spinach and cheese omelet, bacon and hash browns. Service as usual was good. Nov, 2016 update: The weekend brunch at the Garden Buffet once again proved to be disappointing though a necessity since we had an early return flight. There was almost no fresh fruit available and many of the prepared dishes looked tired even though we arrived prior to the buffets opening. I settled on a few shrimp with cocktail sauce, easy over eggs with bacon and red potatoes, Brussel sprouts and some other unmemorable vegetable dish. Service was a plus as was the warm breading pudding. I once again used American Casino Guide coupon good for a free buffet after putting on 300 points on each of our slot cards. —-April 2014 update: Fresh strawberries. Breakfast prices have edged up by $1 since our last visit, but the overall quality remains good. Unlimited bloody Marys are included and fresh fruit options currently include fresh strawberries. My first plate included a variety of fresh fruit topped with yogurt. The second plate attendees were easy over eggs, bacon, corned beef hash and grilled mushrooms. Everything i tried was well prepared and reasonably fresh. We used coupons received at check-in to reduce the cost by 50% making this meal a veritable bargain.05 Jul, 2013Eat and run. We had another early morning flight so once again it was eat and run. I filled my belly with OJ, huevos rancheros, corned beef hash and fresh fruit with yogurt. The room was almost empty so our server was unusually attentive. We used our funbook coupons received a check-in for 50% off making the breakfast buffet a bargain.21 Apr, 2013Okay. We had a morning flight so it was eat and run on the day of our visit. I opted for my usual OJ, fresh fruit with strawberry yogurt, bacon, huevos rancheros and corned beef hash. Everything was okay with nothing standing out.12 Apr, 2012Little turnover. The breakfast buffet on the morning of our visit was virtually empty so turnover was a problem, but we were in a rush to catch our plane. I quickly downed OJ, fresh fruit with yogurt, easy over eggs, corned beef hash and some breakfast tatas. Everything was decent.10 Nov, 2011Freshness counts. On our first morning in Las Vegas we chose the breakfast buffet at South Point. It was unusually busy for a Thursday morning due to an influx of cowboys attending a bovine sale as well as the start of the PBR finals. My breakfast included OJ, fresh fruit with strawberry yogurt, easy over eggs, a sliver of ham, bacon and a Tums. Everything was reasonably fresh. We returned a week later for the luncheon buffet using a pair of free buffet coupons from an additional pair of funbooks. I enjoyed a few small cocktail shrimp, a tomato salad, one BBQ pork rib, a few tiny meatballs and a fresh fruit tart.29 Mar, 2011Good breakfast. We enjoyed leisurely breakfast at this buffet. The buffet has been offering a free Bloody Mary since late last year. On this visit I enjoyed OJ, grapefruit with strawberry yogurt, carved ham and a huevo ranchero. Everything was good as was the service.07 Oct, 2010Getting better. The breakfast buffet has been upgraded since our last visit and now includes a free Bloody Mary. We each enjoyed an OJ and fresh fruit with strawberry yogurt. The remainder of my meal included an odd, but tasty egg ranchero as well as a dollop of corned beef hash and some home fries.16 Feb, 2010Mixed results. 9/18/09 visit: we were staying at the hotel/casino so decided to have the breakfast buffet though our past experience had been disappointing. On this visit we were pleasantly surprised to find the buffet had been upgraded since our last visit. 2.5 Forks out of 5. 9/23/09 revisit: at noon we went downstairs for the Sunday brunch compliments of the 2 free buffet coupons received as part of our postcard offer. The brunch proved to be, as expected, a disappointment with everything of mediocre quality. I sampled shrimp cocktail, Mongolian grilled chicken and vegetables, chow fun and (3) itty bitty desserts. 1.5 Forks out of 5.

We got into the restraunt an hour before closing. The food was mediocre, not much better than country buffet, and they ran out of sushi before we got in :/The cakes and pasteries were stale. The service was friendly.

There is so many reasons to like this buffet but it gets in it’s own way. Was there for lunch and while there was some good or brilliant touches that made the food a cut above (like adding a lite spicyness to normal sweet & sour chicken) on the same dish the chicken wad so thick with batter and cold. In fact many of the HOT food was cold, even when it was great tasting. The worst stuffing in the world as well as uber bad tortollini salad but great macaroni salad! Seafood was well done and taste but few things were overbooked like the great flavored butter shrimp & haddock. Soups were great, deserts were nice to well done. Staff was great to flaming! They try so hard but the hits get overshadowed by rhe misses!
