Unbelievably Loud. As we walked towards N’Awlins, our first comment was that we hoped it wasn’t as loud inside the restaurant as it was outside (due to speakers blasting music). However, it was even louder inside the restaurant. A live band plus people having to shout to be heard even when the band wasn’t playing led to it being nearly impossible to speak across the table.Maybe my friend and I are crotchety, but when I go to a restaurant, that isn’t the atmosphere I want. Sometimes I go to bars and pubs, and then that’s the atmosphere I expect and want. But when I go to a sit-down restaurant, I don’t expect to have to yell to be heard. For ambience, I would rate it a 1/5.As for the food, I ordered a dish which was fairly bland. When asked what spice level I wanted, I asked for medium. What came out was mild, and I have a low spice tolerance; medium for others is usually hot for me. So for it to be that bland for me, I can only imagine what someone with a higher spice tolerance would think. The blandness, combined with pockets of undercooked rice and the dish being only lukewarm when I got it meant that my food wasn’t worth the price.The other person ordered a dish with several different types of seafood, but all of it tasted the same. I would rate the food a 2/5. Not terrible, just not good.The service was ok. The waitress was very nice, but we were left for far too long after ordering drinks, and again after asking for the check. Due to her otherwise attentive and kind persona, it might be that they are simply overstaffed. I’d rate service a 2/5.Normally, to me food is the biggest part of going out to eat. I don’t care much about ambience, and if the food is good, I’ll forget about the service. But in this case, the ambience was so loud that it interfered with my enjoyment of the food, although there wasn’t much to enjoy to begin with. And the somewhat poor service became harder to forget with the not-so-great food. I won’t be returning, but maybe others enjoy that ambience. Either that or tonight’s band was way too loud.
