Excellent Foof and Service. We have many great experiences in New England related to excellent food and service including such places as the Cliff House, Wentworth by the Sea, Bedford Village Inn. The dinner we had at XO On Elm we rank at that same exceptional level. We started with stuffed dates, arancini, and short rib followed by sea bass and a bacon wrapped sirloin, and ended with a blueberry and peach crostata. We were so impressed we had to thank the chef in person. The server and the owner could not have been more pleasent. We highly recommend it.

Very dissapointing. I have had dinner at xo before and have always had a decent meal. Last night was a very big dissapoinment. My wife and I went out by ourselves for a nice evening. We were seated promptly without a reservation. The restaraunt was not busy at 7:30, but did start to fill up as the night went on. It is an extremely loud restaraunt, sometimes difficult to hear your partner speak. We decided not to order an entree but rather pick several items from the starters menu along with some salads so that we could try several items since their desription on the menu sounded very appealing. Bad choice. The panzenella salad was the highlight of the meal, very fresh and delicious. The rest of the meal went downhill. The mussells were very small although the broth was quite tasty. The ceasar salad, braised short ribs and chicken satay were some of the least flavorful items I have had off of a menu for a resaraunt of this caliber. I did not taste any ceasar dressing, the short ribs had neither a rootbeer or guiness flavor which they were supposed to be cooked in and the chicken satay was dry and the sauce was pasty. The flavors all tasted as if the came out of a bottle as apposed to being cooked fresh. For a higher end restaraunt in manchester this was a big dissapointment. We will choose elsewhere next time since their are so many choices in such a small area.

Top notch restaurant. Excellent food. Outstanding service. You dont have to drive to Boston anymore for quality food in an upscale, modern establishment.

Don’t go to XO. Decided to go to the symphony on March 12. Couldn’t get into the Chop House so went to XO. We were seated right away (I called for reservation). It was a busy night so it was quite noisy. Had a nice appetizer of salmon tips, very tasty especially wiht the capers. Waited 35 minutes for our food. My wife ordered gluten free pasta with chicken which was nice but I had the sirloin. My sirloin was undercooked and lukewarm, not a great combination. Because we were trying to make the symphony, we had to hurry out, so we asked the waitress for the check and containers to take home the leftover food (for the dog). That’s when she lost interest, instead of promptly attending to our final business, she stopped to take a large drink order from the next table. I was perplexed because both my wife and I mentioned that we were in a bit of a squeeze time wise because of the show. So we had to get up, present our payment to the bartender and leave. We went to retrieve our car in the lot behind the building and it had been towed!! Not a great way to end our meal. Of course the owner claims that he had nothing to do with it, all the while escorting another car into a space in the SAME LOT! Turns out that the tow truck driver mentioned that the owner of the lot was also the person that rents the space to the owner of XO. That’s convenient!! All in all, very disappointing begining of the evening, Outside of the appetizer, the food was a bit of a letdown (especially for the premium price), the service below average and the fee for the parking a little too much (although I’m sure the owner didn’t mind). Go to the Chop House, at least the food is good.

Excellent, excellent, excellent!. We happened to go on probably one of their busiest nights of the year…Boston Pops in Manchester, A Christmas Carol, and some sort of Christmas party function for 50. We got there early and enjoyed great service from the bar. When our friends arrived, we were immediately seats and ordered entrees instead of tapas, all of which were delicious. Things appeared to be a bit hectic until the Pops crowd cleared out, but we took our time and thoroughly enjoyed the dinner. Matthew stopped by when things quieted down and was very kind to us (love the Limoncello!).

What’s not to love?. I decided to try XO based on some good reviews here. This is a nice little place on one of the main drags in Manchester. There are about 10 tables and a small bar. The decor is very nice: wood, stone, clean lines, earthy colors, mood lighting. I was greeted at the door by Matthew who was friendly and enthusiastic and I was shown to a nice table by the window. It did take about 10 minutes for my server to come by, but after that the service was very good. I had a very nice glass of old vine zinfandel. A nice simple side salad with a good balsamic vinegarette. But the highlight was the braised beef ravioli. This was a little different from any ravioli dish I’ve ever had and it was very good. Several nice pillows of pasta filled with tasty filling in a rich, dark beefy gravy with mushrooms, onions, carrots and tender chunks of beef. It was good from the first bite to the last and very filling. Several of the tapas and appetizer dishes also looked very interesting. I would give it 4/5 stars and I’d go back again!
