A Wedding FEAST!. With most of our cases wrapped for the summer, Watson and I elected to attend the wedding of a pair of Royals from the countryside surrounding Basking Ridge, NJ…..Sir Lawrence of Whitehouse Station and Lady Susan of Flemington. Watson, being related to Sir Lawrence was able to have us invited to the Royal Party as special guests including residing in his own palatial abode. With both wedding and reception taking place directly AT The Old Mill Inn (whose upstairs restaurant apparently is The Grain House), we participated in the wonderfully special and poignant recitations and were immediately let loose on the bar area where very young (aren’t they all these days?) but extremely professional tenders poured our adult beverages with aplomb.Circulating during this time were similar youngsters offering tasty and tender morsels of Chinese Dumplings, Lamb ‘Chaps’, Crab cakes and other assorted grilled skewers and delicacies……all delicious and ALL ravenously devoured by the Regal Guests invited. Crowds, I’ve learned, become more tame and manageable once supplied by the devil’s brew but only to a certainn point whereupon the hidden secrets of the bottle unleash themselves and render previously shy, demure, and inhibited individuals nearly senseless to those around them. THIS was surely an experience I HAD to TRY! (All in the act of scientific research of course!)Yet when the dinner was served the unruly and very boisterous crowd of hangers on achieved a nearly vacuous quiet for the food was so splendid, so ravishing, so DELICIOUS and varied that a spellbound pallor descended on the hall. From Caprese Salad with all the accoutrements to a stirring Eggplant Parmigiana and Roasted Vegetables accompaniment. Paillards of Chicken with a poppy lemon baste, Baked Salmon with a dill sauce as well as carved Roast Beef that had my Vegetarian Bias taken hold of me once more I might have dived into head first. And after what we were told was a specially ordered Wedding Cheesecake, both Watson and I looked at each other and opined that this feast had easily achieved the moniker of Finest Food at a Wedding Reception bar none……. Fabulously Delicious, Utterly Delightful, and Succulently Decadent!!A wonderful experience old chap! thesherlockholmesreviews.com
Stayed at the adjoining hotel for a wedding that took place at the Grain House. The food at the wedding was really good. I had dinner there one night also. I had oysters rolled in pretzel duston a bed of Quinoa, oranges and herbs, it was different and delicious. French onion soup that lacked that powerful onion punch, didnt have alot of onion or cheese but had a nice touch of thyme.Buffalo wings I asked for hot but they only were tabasco. Tabsco is just regular in my opinion. they were ok, one wing was cold near the bone. Mixed salad was good. Filet mignon was done beautifully.

Great mezze platter, lentil soup and beer!!!
Great food and atmosphere. Just had a wonderful dinner there -the Grain House has a cozy pub/bar area with fireplaces in every room. The Wok Charred Salmon was great as well as the burgers and salads that we had. There is a new chef who has upgraded the food quite a bit since last time I was there.
