We always like to dine at Frescos when we’re in Cape May, and in general it is very good as is the atmosphere and service. However, tonight we were very disappointed in what always was a to die for entree: Ossobuco. In the past, the dish was served with noodles. Now it was served with risotto, which was actually quite good. Two of the four of us–including me–had the dish and agreed that the Ossobuco was not only fatty and tough, but also bland. That should not be the case! This Ossobuco needed to be ripped off the bone; it didn’t just fall off. The other two entrees, according to our dinner guests, were great. So a mixed bag at Frescos, but a bad sign that one of its signature dishes was just average at best.
Food was outstanding, ambiance exceptional, service extraordinaire. Did not feel rushed, waitress paired a perfect bottle of wine to our meal and got exactly what we payed for. Definitely much better then a ca mia in town and will definitely be back.
Fantastic food!. We vacationed in Cape May last year and had the most wonderful, delectable eats at Frescos. After our lovely horse drawn carriage ride/tour of the town, we had a fantastic meal here. From the service to the meal to the wine to the dessert, we were impressed. So impressed that I had to take a photo of the outdoor posted menu so that we would remember to come back here when we go back to Cape May!
Good service. I had an Excellent Beef Fillet Dinner. My wife enjoyed her Chicken Marsala. My Son reported his Lobster Ravioli was very good.
A New Jersey Pearl. It has been several years since my wife and I have been to Cape May, but one of the great highlights of our trips there was always dinner at Frescos. The food was always top-notch (the vodka sauce was particularly memorable) and the atmosphere utterly charming and romantic. As far as I’m concerned Frescos is touched by magic.Update: just returned from Cape May and had dinner at Fresco’s on our final evening there. In short, the food is is magnificent as ever and the service is better than ever. I had fried kalamata and Sicilain green olives, which were an unusual but successful appetizer. And my rigatoni arrabiata con salsicia was very special. I fancy myself a pretty fair Italian cook, but don’t think I could duplicate the zestiness of this wonderful dish.
Rotting lettuce in my $9 salad and my husband’s $18 spaghetti entree was miniscule. The decor looks nice and the service was pleasant but it doesn’t make up for the bad food and miserly portions.
Delicious, famous, Cape May favorite
