Hostess ruins dinner. Yesterday my husband and I went to Pier House to celebrate my 60th birthday with a romantic dinner. Ha!!! We requested a table inside their lovely dining room when maki the reservation. My husband confirmed his request just hours before our dinner. Yet when we arrived the hostess tried to seat us in the bar. We complained and instead and were instead seated at a booth next to a child with special needs who made noise all through dinner. The parents are apparently used to this and did nothing. When we left I asked to quietly speak to the hostess about why she sat us, knowing we were celebrating my birthday, at a table for four near a disruptive child when a table for two sat vacant through most of our dinner. She proceeded to yell at me in front of a lobby full of people that she was not going to discriminate against children with special needs! She also claimed that other Cape May restaurants refuse to seat children after six. I have been coming to Cape May for 30 years (with my kids when they were little). No restauant has ever asked if my party included children or refused to seat us when it did. There were several set, vacant tables when we left but the lobby was full of waiting customers. This hostess cost the restaurant my future business. And PS– the food was not up to past standards.
Dinner was delicious. Then we had breakfast here two days later and it wasn’t very good. I got the belgian waffle and it wasn’t served with butter. I asked for some and she brought out a dish of frozen butter packets. My boyfriend’s omelet was brown too. Would go back for dinner but not breakfast.
Overpriced for the quality of food served. Waiting staff was excellent. Overcooked filet mignon, blamed the serving staff, offered no excuses. Fish ordinary for the location
Excellent food and the service couldn’t be any better. This is a Greek restaurant with a very nice menu. I came here with a group of 9 who and everyone loved their meal. We had everything from sea bass to crab cakes to pasta/chicken to chicken souvlaki and everyone was talking about how good the food was even the next day. All of us definitely recommend this restaurant.
OBNOXIOUS JERK OWNER!!!. Live in Cape May and tried Pier House for the first time. Drinks, appetizers, and dinner were very good. We were seated in the bar and had reservations. Bar was somewhat loud but got obnoxious when a party of sixteen walked in. They were so loud we couldn’t even converse during dinner. Tried talking to the owner on the way out but he didn’t want to entertain the idea that a patron would have something to say about the obnoxious crowd. Of course not, he would get more money from the party of sixteen than our small party of 3. I started the conversation nicely and quietly. He kept trying to talk over me and tried to give me free desert. I didn’t want anything free. (My brother is a restaurant manager and I know he would have wanted to know if a patron was unhappy.) This was how I started the conversation, trying to let him know that the food was good but he needed to rethink seating people in the bar area for dinner. All the while he was talking over me and calling me sweetheart. He was as obnoxious as the bar crowd and would not listen. There are many wonderful restaurants in Cape May. The food here is not above any of the other good restaurants in Cape May, 410 etc. Would never return and give this JERK any more of my hard earned money!
It is a very atmosphere with fabulous sea food and Greek gourmet! I highly reccomend!
Been under new ownership for several years. Seems to change hands frequently while the food remains consistently good. Very unique combinations on the menu and their nightly specials are delicious. Haven’t been disappointed. Try them for breakfast!
