Sagami is a charming spot for a date, with very nice lighting and atmosphere despite the extremely low ceilings. Be careful of the low ceilings. The service is usually good, but can get dicey if they are busy and people are waiting to be seated. If this is the case the service goes from friendly to not so friendly as they will frantically try to get you to either order more food or pressure you to wrap it up despite food still on the table you havnt even eaten yet.It leaves you feeling like seriously I just spent alot of dough and Im being pressured to leave already. Not a good feeling. If its not too busy, service is above average.Wait time is a bit long sometimes. The veggie dishes like eggplant ,watercress and asparagus are good and the fish is fresh but the menu is limited and the rolls are boring to say the least. It appears that no imagination whatsoever is put into the process of making the rolls.Sagami has been the same for years and needs to get a little more creative but if you like sushi and sashimi and the basic japanese quisine they do deliver. You will leave happy, but if you like specialty rolls there is a chance you may be disappointed. I wish Sagami would get out of the stone ages one day and put a few specialty rolls other than the spider roll on the menu to fill the needs of all diners.I got the jaw of yellowtail and it was extremely salty and i did not like it.Not sure why people have raved over this you dip it in more salty soy sauce with( i think it was sliced radish )or something similar. It was just too much salt and dont touch the fish you wont be able to get the smell off your hand for a while even after you wash your hands.Sagami is one of the most charming places, with always fresh fish but lacks creativity and selection. Its puzzling why they dont at least tweak some things to put it to the next level but success may be something they dont want to mess with.Understandably they have had success in their approach for years so i guess you cant blame them. Even if you are a specialty roll type you should give Sagami a chance. The ambiance is extraordinary and freshness is always a gaurentee here at the famous Sagami restaurant.

Ingnore the naysayers. Sagami is a GEM in an otherwise bleak sushi landscape in the area. Yes, its busy. Yes, the restaurant does not cater to the take out crowd. Yes, if you don’t have a reservations, you are not likely to get a seat during busy hours. Yes, the hostess (the owner) is not going to stroke your ego because you feel important and want to be treated like you are a celeberty there to bless the restaurant with your presence. Yes, when its busy, there is a wait to get your Sushi; there are three chefs that prepare your food with the attention and care only seen at a few places outside of Japan. If you are upsed by any of this, Whole Foods is a great option. Sagami is there to provide superb sushi at a level that rivals the best sushi in any metropolitan area around the globe. Period. The experinence is not about you. It is about the sushi.Enjoy

The best sushi in a 700 mile radius. Me and Dolly bring Belgian beer and sake. We go dancing every time we leave. We leave so satisfied! You’ll love it!

Sagami, just the best. Several generations have been following Sagami, for the last 35 years. The best Japanese place in the area. I have friends coming from NY city to eat there. Others from Delaware. The whole experience is so unique, so enriching. The consistency of the food is just biblical…Every dish, hot or cold, is prepared with care and love. I cannot say enough bout the place, about the working crew. Thank you Sagami

We’ved been coming to Sagami for more than 10 yrs. & never been disappointed. This is an AUTHENTIC Japanese place with the very best sashimi grade tuna, yellow tail, salmon, etc. I always go for the Chirashi dinner (soup, salad & ice cream included) very best in the PA/NJ/DE area! Hamachi Kama (grilled yellow tail’s jaw) is another favorite. Skip the rolls & enjoy real deal Japanese cuisine by getting nigiri, chirashi or sashimi entrees.

Worth the wait. When it’s crowded…it is packed (like a sardine can, literally). Great waitstaff, very kind. If you go there at least once in a blue moon (*and are nice to them), they remember you and treat you GREAT. If you’re looking for quick service, this is NOT THE PLACE FOR YOU on a friday or saturday night!!! You might as well go to McDonald’s…If you like good sushi and don’t mind waiting a little bit, enjoying some wine, talking, then you will love this place. We recommend it all the time.
