Outstanding porterhouse steak they say feeds 2 but 3 people can easily eat it. Lovely warm atmosphere better to go on a weekday than a weekend as there is a lot of waiting on weekends even if you hae a reservation. The liver with the bacon and onion is fantastic. I also enjoyed the bread basket good selection. The salad had some nice meaty tomatoes in them with a blue cheese crumble that add a good flavour to it. From the desserts I like the Kew lime pie the best. Will definitely recommend and come back again.
Long wait. Every time I have reservations for a Weekend. They always make people wait. No consideration for people’s time. They are better off not taking reservations if they don’t plan to seat people on time.
Best Restaurant in Bergen County. I have been going to the River Palm since it opened in 1983. River Palm is one of the best restaurants not only in Bergen County, but in the country. The food is consistently good. The service is great and the hostesses are extremely professional. I usually eat the Halibut or Dover Sole, and the fish is fresh and delicious. My husband is a meat ester and loves the shell steak. It is sour grapes for anyone that has reviewed RP negatively.Bartenders are friendly, and very attentive.
The food was fine. I agree that it was somewhat under seasoned, but I prefer my food that way instead of disgustingly salty. The chocolate banana cream pie was delicious. We sat 10 min before our reservation and everyone was dealt with was courteous and polite, so I’m really not sure what all the negative reviews were about. We did dress appropriately (I wore a skirt, my boyfriend wore a tie) but MANY patrons were underdressed. The table beside us was very rude, kept using the flash on phone cameras to take pictures of their toddler playing on an iPad. That was obnoxious, we thought we were going to be blind by the time we left. I would say that was the only negative to our experience, which was overall very pleasant.
I guess a reservation doesn’t mean much. All I can say is the food is great, the bartenders great the waiters great. So whats my problem? We make reservations for the evenings only sometimes days in advance for the bar room and we wait and wait everytime. Meanwhile we see people come in after us and their reservations are honored by the hostess. We finally realized that the hostess decides who’s reservations are kept and who has to wait. I guess you have to have an in with hostess in the evening. A restaurant can have really good food but if you are made to wait so long that your once great mood has been ruined the whole evening is ruined. So after years of being treated this way we decided Ruth Chris is clearly a better option for us. The food is great at Ruth Chris and we feel like our reservations are valued.
I visited River Palm with my father about a month ago, and the food and service was exceptional. Although we waited roughly 30 min past our reservation time, it wasn’t a big deal as we hung around the bar and had a few drinks. The food itself is extraordinary, and our waiter was very knowledgable and honest, a personal must when I’m going to be spending tha kind of money for food. I can understand reviewers being frustrated with reservation times, but the River Palm isn’t a place where you can really expect to be in and out within an hour. It’s a great restaurant and from my limited experiance mixed in with my fathers multiple visits, we will gladly be back to this somewhat hidden gem
Most arrogant restaurant in NJ. Food has always been good at River Palm – particularly like the sea bass, chopped salad, and filet mignon. Desserts are good for a steak house.Even though admittedly this is probably one of the better steak houses in NJ in terms of food, I have stopped going altogether because of the obnoxious and arrogant hosts and waiters. No matter how good the food, why would you want to go to a restaurant where they lie to your face over and over again. Sure we have a table for you – just wait by the bar for 20 minutes (there you sit for over an hour). Sure, we have your reservation, just wait by the bar for a few minutes (there you sit for over an hour). Food isn’t worth being treated like a piece of garbage. The arrogance is beyond measure. What I describe above is NOT a one time occurrence – it is a pattern of deceit. Some waiters are ok in the restaurant – many are just as arrogant and obnoxious as the hosts. If you go, you have been warned.Reply to Rob C: Rob – this restaurant has been in business for a LONG time. Do you think they don’t know how quickly their tables turnover? Or perhaps they just think that your/my time is worthless, and it is ok to keep lying to their customers’ faces?
