Food is not consistently good, but I have had a few good meals. Service here is horrendous. Just a few young, what seems like kids waiting tables … We have gone for lunch, and it took 50 minutes for Cuban sandwiches. We went back another day for dinner, and again we waited forever ..

Had dinner here last night for the first time. Place was packed but only waited 5 min to get seated. Service was some of the best I have experienced in a long time. The dcor was very modern and yet warm. The owner was very tentative to everyone’s needs. He kept coming around to see if everything was ok which was very nice. For appetizer we had the Yuca fries with garlic sauce and it was really good. I have the Churrasco with chimichurri sauce along with white rice and beans. My wife had the one of the special which was Baby Pernil, dirty rice and salad. We also got a side order of Maduros. For dessert we tried the Chocolate Empanadas which was 3 or 4 small empanadas filled with chocolate sauce, deep fired and covered in powdered sugar. The portion was a good size. Everything was well dcooked and very good.Overall a very nice place. We will definitely come again.

No More Chances. I am all for seeing small restaurant establishments succeed, but I am getting tired of this one. I have personally visited the restaurant with friends a few times and thought the food was just decent. I haven’t been to Casual Habana in a while because of my past experiences but thought I would give it one more try. However, today WILL BE my last visit there. I placed an order for pick up (one feature I do love about the place) and received pernil asado, beef empanadas, yellow rice, red beans and a Cubano sandwich. I must say, the best part of the meal was the red beans. The pernil asado was drenched in grease, had little flavor and was full of squishy fatty pieces. I was grossed out as I felt the texture in my mouth. The yellow rice was extremely dry and had very little flavor but by far the worst was the Cubano sandwich. Let me preface that I have been eating Cuban food for more than 36 years and have never eaten a horrible Cubano until Casual Habana. First off, the pork on the sandwhich was sliced pork loin, not the pernil that we should all be used too. In addition, the ham was thick and fatty, like a spiral cut ham from your local super market and served at an Easter dinner. The sandwich was extremely thick with a sauce not typical of a Cubano. I am all for creativity and making the sandwich your own but felt Casual Habana missed the mark! To end of a positive not the beef empanadas were pretty good for Bergen County standards (that being a lack of good Cuban food).

Good food. You get to meet the owner. Natural Ingredients are used in the food preparation. Good prices.

Great food and prices!. Casual Habana Cafe in Hackensack is definitely a must try. I ate lunch there today with my pregnant wife, who whenever we eat out during this pregnancy she complains about this or that, but not this time. They had a lunch buffet that included a salad bar (very fresh selection), soups, sweet plantains, chickens, steak, rice & beans, and delicious corn just to name a few. I usually dislike buffet food due to lack of quality or improper preparation, but Casual Habana far surpassed my wife and I expectations and I plan to tell all my friends and family about the only place probably in Bergen county you can get a $8.00 buffet that’s worth 3 to 4 times that. All there is left to say is make sure you go hungry because even if you order something off the menu the portions are huge!
