A tad bit more on the expensive side, I guess this place is more famous for the ambience. The quantities were good with the mock tails being great, as said by others as well. The interior reminds me of an English cottage/wood cabin and the staff is probably the restaurants best asset. Their menu could probably do well with some more options, especially for the vegetarian crowd.
Excellent food. Lunch menu is best. Dinner is expensive. Happy hour is great. I have dined here too many times to count. Only one mishap in a dish. Immediately corrected. Food allergy friendly. A must all year at the GFS.
Loved it! We were seated in the lounge at an awkward table right by the a/c and froze our butts off. Our waiter John arranged another table in no time. The manager was also accomadating and tried to raise the temperature as much as possible. Once we were seated, again, the night was perfection. Our waiter, John, was amazing. He was knowledgable about the entire menu and very attentive. My husband had the lamb and I had the Angus fillet. Both were fabulous! It was also my husbands birthday and John brought a little treat at the end of our meal complete with candle. A memorable night and we will go back for sure!
We showed up 25 minutes early and the matte d’ left us standing in the entrance lobby – along with others. Plenty of open tables…. Why? He didn’t want to overload the kitchen staff with addl customers! Apparently if we didn’t have reservations we probably would be seated! Did he tell us there was a waiting lounge/bar? NO! We discored that later. For was just ok but pricey. Decor is great, waiters attentive but not very friendly. Will not go back. Pier At http://www.bamboohollow.com
All that glitters. I have eaten at Rat’s a number of times. It is an absolutely beautiful restaurant set within the amazing Grounds for Sculpture, and you are free to walk the Grounds after dinner, when they are normally closed, which is a speciakl treat. However, the ambiance of Rat’s is unmatched by it’s over-priced food and snotty service. The food while good is not spectacular, as one expects when paying a few hundred for dinner. Worse is the reluctance of the staff to accomodate special dietary requests although it states on their website that they do. I asked for then to hold the Chorizo on my mussels because I do not eat meat and was told that the chef might not do that. Really? I thought the owner of the establishment would be much smarter than that.Equally appalling is the refusal by the staff to provide me with the table near the fireplace which I requested on a night when the restaurant was not even half full. I was told that they hold those tables for a party of four, even though the table they chose to seat us at also held four people. If I want to be treated rudely, I will go to my mother in law’s for dinner. But I certainly won’t be going back to Rat’s, even if someone else is picking up the tab, because the way that I have been treated during 2 of my 3 visits there is unacceptable.Maybe if the restaurant made service a top priority then there would not be so many empty tables on any given night.
Well someones gotta write an up to date review on the beloved rats restaurant located at the grounds for sculpture and I suppose it will be stu..rats is an absolutely beautiful restaurant when it comes to the grounds and the over all ambiance .. the service is mediocre especially because majority of the waitstaff are of the Spanish descent and have trouble speaking English let alone pronouncing culinary terms of other regions .. now technically speaking rats is classified as a country French restaurant so you might be disappointed to find out there is actually very little French cuisine on the menu if anything it’s more of an Italian flare ? in multiple dishes I’ve encountered way too much salt and alot of the dishes were poorly composed … I think I seen a Japanese dish on the menu too !!
After hearing great things about Rats we were very disappointed. Reservations for 3:15 and finallly seated at 3:45. No comp or manager apology to make up for it. Restaurant had plenty of empty tables visible from where we waited. Limited lunch menu. Onion soup was good but short rib entrees were small and underseasoned. Frites served with ketchup right from the bottle instead of a dipping sauce. Listened to inappropriate comments from managers to waitstaff the entire time. Heard bar mgr accuse staff of stealing wine. Another mgr was walking around counting money from register saying they’re not making enough. Etc. Mediocre food and poor front of the house management. Servers seemed good.
