The bakeries bread and desserts are the closest to what is German bakery food should taste like. Showed this place to my German friend and she’s hooked to this place for her fix. She comes all the way from Brooklyn! I’m fan of its strudels and pastries this place has to offer.
I have tried their Carrot Cake several times and it is PERFECT! It is so soft without it being overly sweet. The owner is really polite and all their pastries are freshly made. If you go late in the evening, their pastries are almost always sold out. I am definitely going to try more! smilingnotes.com
Authentic German Bakery. I have been here several times for their hot chocolate which is home made and gourmet. When we go to Hoboken I always skip the lines at Carlos (though We have bought pastries there once) the lines are too long and it is over hyped. I lived in Yorkville in Manhattan which used to be a German neighborhood. But now there is only one German bakery left in Yorkville that was sited for health violations. Old German Bakery is clean and never to crowded and has seats outside when it is warm enough. The pastries must be great because all of the pastries I want are always sold out by the time I get there! In general it seems people want to experience the hype of a TV show. But if you want great hot chocolate or authentic pastries this is your spot!
