Good food, Very poor service. My husband and I recently went to Stony Hill to celebrate our anniversary. I had been wanting to try this restaurant for a while so I was excited to go for such a special occasion. We had an early dinner reservation so the place was nearly empty when we arrived. With so many tables available, we were oddly shuttled to a small, corner table right next to a full table and we were a bit uncomfortable. Our waiter took our drink order right away but it was an unusually long wait for our drinks. In the meantime, we had no menu to look over. When our drinks arrived, still no menus. It took more than 10 minutes just to get a menu. And this was when the place was nearly empty!Sad to say, this went on all through our meal. It’s like we were stuffed in a corner and forgotten about. We skipped dessert because we didn’t want to in the restaurant anymore. The food was very good and I would have liked to have tried one of the desserts but the poor service ruined the experience for us and left my husband annoyed and irritable at a time when we both should have been in very good moods. I will not go back.

Very Poor Service. Sadly I have to give this review to a beautiful place. The Stony Hill Inn is beautiful but the staff and service is plain horrible. I first met with Kathy back in April 2013 to possibly have my Engagement Party there in August 2013. It went well the date was available, and she was very accommodating a little cold, and not very friendly or talkative, but we figure that was just her character. As I was telling some relatives about the Stony Hill, they advise me to look some place else, the food and the service has change they said and that is why the bank she worked for no longer host there parties there, but the inside was so perfect I went against it, and I called Kathy back to make an appointment to leave my deposit. I made the appointment for that Thursday but when we got there she was gone. We were told that the appointment was for Friday. I know I made it for Thursday because it was my Fiance’s day off, but still the place is beautiful and I said ok we will be back tomorrow, to leave the deposit. When we arrived Friday I met with Kathy, she acted like she never had seen us before and even introduce herself, I tried to remind her that we had met before and how on our first meeting we found out that she is also from Saddle Brook, where my fiance is from and that he went to school with her children. She was so out of it, and my fiance at that point signaled to a glass of wine on her desk, which the way she was acting we think she might had a few by that time already. She did not remember or conversation, but tried to say yes I remember when I told her you remember. She didn’t remember we were there to leave a deposit, and she had already booked the day we were there for, but failed to ever give me a call to even cancel the meeting since it was not a first meeting, but a deposit meeting. She wasted two of our days, since we were there Thursday and then had to go back Friday, and she never even apologize.

Very nice.. This restaurant has a beautiful atmosphere and very good food too. You should just hire more professional servers and then you’d have it all.

Unarguably the Best Restaurant in Hackensack. I have been to the Stony Hill Inn on several occasions, and can honestly say that this is the only restaurant that has never disappointed. The estate-like setting sets off the beautifully decorated Colonial manor house. And I mean Colonial, not what we now call Early American. The restaurant has its main dining room, but boasts a warren of smaller rooms all uniquely decorated. Most recently I have been with private parties in the Pipe Room and the Print Room. These intimate rooms allow for a private dining experience for special parties too small to usually fill a private room (say 15 to 2o people.)The food is exceptional. I suppose primariy Italian in flavor, but they also grill a mean steak. One of my favorite appetizers is Broccoli di Rapa con Salsiccie, a concoction of broccoli rabe with homemade Italian sausage. The Mozzarella en Carozza is another favorite. Aside from the excellent steaks, I’m also partial to the Vitello Milanese.Service is excellent. Professional, attentive waiters and waitresses take pains to make you feel special. Even in the private dining rooms the attention to detail is superb. It is expensive, but well worth the cost.
